Deadpool promises to be the most unconventional superhero movie of 2016, and with the film only a few weeks away, some new promotional imagery and TV spots have been released. The latest images take aim at the much-hyped return of The X-Files to TV screens, and were tweeted by the official Deadpool twitter account. Check them out below:

In addition, two new TV spots have been released, that emphasise the film's mix of dark humour and slam-bang action:

Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds as mercenary Wade Wilson, who is given superhuman healing powers after undergoing experimental treatment for a terminal illness. Adopting a distinctive suit, the disfigured, fast-talking anti-hero seeks violent revenge on the men responsible for his condition.

The movie sits within Fox's X-Men universe. Reynolds played the character briefly in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, although this version is much closer to its comic book origins.

Deadpool is the directorial debut of visual effects artist Tim Miller. It also stars Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, and T. J. Miller, and is released on February 12, 2016.
