Electronic Arts launched a number of new intellectual properties in 2008, not the least of which were Spore, Warhammer Online, Boom Blox, and Dead Space. And while the influx of new franchises may have played a role in the publisher's $1 billion fiscal-year loss, many proved to be solid foundations for future titles going forward.

Namely, EA revealed earlier this year that its new sci-fi survival horror shooter Dead Space would see an all-new installment on the Wii, following on from glowing reviews and respectable sales for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC edition of the game. Today, EA said that the Wii game--Dead Space Extraction--will commence its haunt on retail on September 29 in North America, with the European release following on October 2.

Female protagonist Lexine will lead the action in Dead Space Extraction, as she guides a contingent of space colonists away from a contagion spreading across the Aegis VII mining colony. The on-rails shooter introduces a number of new enemies, weapons, and features and will also introduce a co-op multiplayer mode.

Visceral Games--nee EA Redwood Shores--has been tasked with developing Dead Space Extraction on the Wii. The developer was quick to note that the Nintendo console edition of Dead Space will tell a story "with all of the intensity, blood, and gore that fans would expect."
