When EA first offered gamers a date with Dead Space, the publisher seemed to have it right, slating the action horror title for the spookiest day of the year, October 31. That release date held until just last week, when EA made the surprise move of bumping the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of the game forward a week to October 21, leaving the PC edition alone to anchor Halloween.

Today, EA revises Dead Space's launch date yet again, with the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions due on October 14, with the PC edition following on October 20. As noted by EA, the new console release date gives gamers "a full 17 days before Halloween to step out into space for the fright of their lives."

Set in the far future, Dead Space transports players to the darkest reaches of the galaxy, where a recovery force is sent to investigate the mysterious happenings aboard an out-of-contact mining vessel. Taking the role of protagonist Isaac Clarke, players soon find themselves fending for their lives against a host of hostile aliens.
