Dead Space 3 demo arriving January 22

Downloadable demo for Visceral Games' upcoming action shooter is arriving on PSN and Xbox Live Marketplace in late January; 360 owners can sign up for the demo a week early in an exclusive offer.

EA and Visceral Games have announced a downloadable demo for the upcoming action shooter, set for release on February 5.

The demo will be available for download on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace on January 22. However, EA is offering Xbox 360 owners the chance to access the demo a week early, on January 15. Interested players are invited to register here.

According to EA, the demo will feature a "customised portion of Tau Volantis," the ice planet from Dead Space 3, as well as new necromorphs and a separate weapon-crafting arena that will give players the chance to experiment with weapon combinations.

The demo will offer both single-player and online-only cooperative play. EA has also confirmed that the recently announced Kinect voice controls for Dead Space will be available in the demo.

"Dead Space 3 is the first game to feature co-op-specific voice commands for the Kinect," EA said. "Using your voice, you can find your partner, revive him, trade ammo and health packs in co-op, while in single-player, you'll have access to commands such as the ability to reload weapons, heal yourself, locate objectives, and open menus."

EA said that it is currently planning to offer the Dead Space 3 demo for the Xbox 360 and PS3 only.

Dead Space 3 is due out on February 5, 2013, in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, with a release following in Europe on February 8. The game is the first entry in the action horror series to feature cooperative play. Players will venture to a new planet called Tau Volantis as series hero Isaac Clarke, but will also be joined by newcomer John Carver.

guess ill have to pirate this one :)

and they wonder why PC piracy is on the up...... a fair few pirates "acquire" the game illegally because they are not prepared to pay the $50- $60 asking price without testing it first.

im by no means saying that  going back to releasing demos on all platforms will cure piracy but it would absolutely cut it down a little.

Well then, it is time to find out if this game even is the least bit frightening.

Looks pretty damn scary...oh wait...no, it doesn't. I swear, leave it to EA to make a scary game look and feel boring.

Were they using bullet time style slo-mo there at the beginning on the mobs that were moving "too fast"?

DS and DS2 were great.....but every time I read an article where DS3 is called "action shooter" I feel more and more that I shoul skip DS3 and keep the good memories from previous games.

"Revive him"? Didn't they cut that for the sake of keeping some of the tension that an horror themed game should have? Please, don't give me the"Dead Space is not / never was true horror, it's a shooter" bullshit.

For me, I hate tainting my impression of a game with what sometimes is an incomplete product.  Demos nowadays are just not consistently.. finished.  I don't think devs have enough time or bandwith to really focus on making a solid product.

Last great demo I played was for the first Bioshock.

I have zero time for demos.  Too many games to play!  Too many games about to release!  Feeling tightness of the chest!  Arrrrgh!

Dead Space 1 & 2 were excellent, especially Chapter 10 on DS2, great atmosphere.  I hope this new one lives up to the others.  I like the artic setting.

It's good that there is a demo available, too much of this industry is focused on things like preorders and season passes, where you're not really sure of what you're buying. I don't like that there's no PC demo, but then again, I always get surprised when seeing that a modern game has a demo. It's more the exception than the rule nowadays it seems.

No pc demo, why am I not surprised. Just lazy, then they complain like b**ches and wonder why there's so many pirate downloads of their games.

Can't wait for this!  I remember watching a gameplay footage (I couldn't help it) of Isaac making his way towards a 200 year old derelict ship in orbit over Tau Velantis.  As he entered it was pitch black and absolutely quiet...no engine roaring.  Nothing!  Just 200 year old dead bodies floating in zero-G!  Kind of reminds me of the first Dead Space, where that military ship crashes into the Ishimura!

I think people are being far too pre-judgemental of this game...I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised!

I like the Dead Space series, but if EA plan on swamping us with DLC for this, then they will lose fans. I want the whole game day one, not 80% & a ticket.

One and the only outstanding competitor of Resident Evil series. I'm sure the existence of both series will help raise each of their standard.

Not gonna bother with this, the game looks like shit and a typical EA cash cow. What made the first Dead Space so stellar was that it hit the sweet spot between action and horror in the same way RE4 did. In a way, Dead Space was the spiritual sucessor to RE4 and what RE5 and RE6 shouldve been. The Dead Space 3 dev appears to be making the same mistake as Capcom did with Re5 with the addition of co-op and thus a more action orientated experience. This just looks like a generic action title with none of the "Alien" inspired horror and atmosphere that made the first Dead Space so awesome. I soon as i saw the cover shooting gameplay in the E3 demo, i just cringed and knew straight away that this game is gonna be shit.

@DeadrisingX1 If it isn't 'frightening' it'll at least be somewhat disturbing. I personally don't play Dead Space because of the horror, so it being scary doesn't concern me; if it does everything or nearly everything else right, then I'm happy.

@Johny_47 Yup , also this frustrates me "Dead Space 3 is the first game to feature co-op-specific voice commands for the Kinect," , Why in the hell would this not be used with PC headsets which are vastly superior to the tacky Kinect.

This is how I feal, multiplayer is gone so I think the single player story and even co-op got much more detail like in the first game

@BadHungryWolf Yes, 200 years before the time Dead Space 3 takes place, but 300 years in the future from us, ha ha. It could easily be missed and mistaken for it all being the same.

@jark888 ....or EA's desire to "mainstream" the series will water it down and make me look for another fresh take niche horror game (like the original Dead Space was to begin with).

Raphy_Turtle

@Prats1993 I think you're being a little premature in judging a game you have not played yet. Yes successful titles moving towards a more action genre to appeal the greater demographic is a real and frustrating phenomenon. However, the devs have been saying over and over to their fans, that they are not changing the stressful survival horror genre. They are just also throwing in cover based shooter scenes with humans in the middle of all the survival stuff. People who previewed the game confirmed it. This is still Dead Space, it just gives you even more tools to kill the scary baddies and occasional ''action scenes'' to add variability and stress. The question we don't know, is what will be the ratio of survival vs action scenes. Though from what we're hearing, it sounds like they won't steer far away from what made the franchise successful. Why risk killing an acclaimed title's longevity to maybe sell more copies of ONE game?

RaveNRolla

@mystwade agreed. even though i hope it's gonna be awesome, i also hope isaac finally dies at the end. a trilogy is enough, more titles are only gonna increase the chances of this series getting bad.

I actually liked the feel of the first game, was scared at some portions though there are very very few games I've been scared in...the second part was, well, nothing new...I liked that the enemies in the first part were right from the start, unlike lets say doom 3 where you walked for 10 minutes after the outbreak, everybody died, but miracolously it took a whole damn 10 minutes until one of the beast running around attacked you...in DS1 you are attacked something like 5 seconds after the other people, which is great...

@SteamyPotatoes  @Johny_47 I don't know why this can't be used by anything that can utilize a mic or headset, PS3 included.  I'm thinking someone got a capital bump from Microsoft and if that's true this is just further proof that Microsoft's gaming eye is set more so on consoles than PC's.  Not surprising though.  They have invested a fortune in their console gaming division, and to their credit it has paid off relatively well for them. Also, with the future of the pc so up in the air right now due to the surge from tablet competition, from a business perspective it just makes better sense to support your more solid profit generator (that is console gaming over pc gaming, not console gaming over pc in general... had to clarify).

@Raphy_Turtle  @Prats1993 I have to admit that I'm not very optimistic about DS3 and desperately hoping to be wrong.

They stoped calling DS a "survival horror" to call it an "action shooter". I can think of few genres that are so far apart than this two.

I will check the demo hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.

@Fryboy101  @sam628 Well, he did make it personal by putting the 'my' in it. I see no problem with it. 360 is indeed behind, but it doesn't really matter. Dead Space 3 will surely be great on whatever system you play it on.
