Dead Rising 2: Off the Record lurching Oct. 11?

Capcom announces release date of upcoming Frank West-led budget spin-off, then removes mention.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record--Capcom's $40 Frank West-led zombie game--was announced in April with a vague fall 2011 release window. Now, its publisher is having a tough time keeping the game's official release date off the record.

Frank West goes off the record this October, it seems.

According to since-pulled announcements on the Capcom Europe blog and its Facebook page (viewable via Google search), Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will ship for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on October 11 in North America, followed by a European debut on October 14.

It is unclear as to why Capcom removed the release date announcement post, and as of press time, the publisher has not responded to GameSpot's request for comment or clarification on the matter.

As for the game, Off the Record offers an alternate storyline to last year's horror action game Dead Rising 2. Photojournalist West--the protagonist of the original Dead Rising--stars in the title, getting the scoop on a zombie outbreak in the Las Vegas-like Fortune City. In addition to the combo weapon feature introduced in Dead Rising 2, Off the Record will bring back the original game's photography feature, where players gain experience for snapping pics that are judged for their horror, drama, brutality, and erotic content.

Off the Record includes new missions, enemies, combo weapons, environments, items, and vehicles. The game will also feature technical improvements like reduced load times and better network performance for online play. Capcom is also promising "enhancements" to the save system and co-op modes.

Why are they re-releasing the game? I loved Dead rising 2 and beat it why do I have to buy it again for 40 bucks to get some meager new features? This is a amazing deal for people who didn't buy the game, yet for people who bought the game this is a slap in the face. I hope they release it half off dlc for people who already bought the game, but I doubt it.

Kevin75, the game was quite good when it came down to it... need I remind that it got 8's and 9's when it came out? The biggest mistake made was to hype it up way too much.

This is me not caring. Seriously You had one chance to make that game good and you blew it. (The game was good but should have been better). Stop trying to milk us for money and make a sequel for us to review.

Why not wait until Halloween, then release it alongside the beginning of the new season of "The Walking Dead"? Capcom should hire me for marketing strategies ;)

I just downloaded the second trailer for DR2: Off The Record and it seemed a slightly different game to the one featuring Chuck Greene! I think that this will be good simply because of the re-play value these games have. They maybe not exactly ground breaking in terms of visuals/graphics but it is a really fun game to play... And that in my opinion is the most important factor in gaming? Love it! Can't wait to play this!!

@sochio They have the Case West expansion.

They really need to add a free roaming mode of some sort. I know that technically in DR2 u can free roam but if u want to do it from the start of the game u won't be able to access several thing and areas, for example the maintainence rooms, underground doors etc.

@FlamingFury Agree to you, first one is weak in story, that's why I felt sometime bored in between the game. But this one looking good enough, lets see this time and hope for better.

I would totally play this again... if the load times aren't so terrible and the controls aren't as clunky. Getting from point A to point B wasn't bad, but the boss fights were a little ridiculous. Stop to eat something and get shot six times in the middle of the animation... I almost broke my controller.

I would have been happier with an updated port of the original Dead rising to tell the truth.

I loved Dead Rising 2, but the story wasn't strong enough for me to want to replay it again as a different character, I just loved the sandbox feel of the game. I don't see what adding Frank will really add/change to the experience, especially when it's in the exact same city...

I thought there'd be no way I would be in the mood for more Dead Rising by the time this game came out, but I don't know. I'm kind of feeling it now.

@darkcomedian I think that it is supposed to be a stand alone game in its own right but I hear what you are saying... It is still set in Fortune City like DR2 but it is supposed to be from Frank's point of view instead of Chuck Greene's! I am guessing that they will have all the maintenance rooms of Chuck's adventure in it along with some of the characters but won't feature him personally... which would mean no Katey? I would say this will be good addition to the story and not just a poor sequel or add on from DR2, where the only difference is you play Frank instead of Chuck! Well I hope that is the case anyway? p.s. Is anyone else having problems with the video clip above, it won't play for some reason?

I still am confused as to whether this is an okay substitute for not buying Dead Rising 2 or just an add-on that would be best bought with a copy of Dead Rising 2.

DR has the some of the worst controls i have ever had the displeasure of playing.... i like the game but i cant get past the controls.

good cause the load times in DR2 was horrible, and as fun as it was, the co-op was horrible in the sense of it was really REALLY broken.

i just bought dead rising 2 because of the price drop and i have to say it is the funniest game i have played, and you can not be frustrated even if you die because of its hilarity because of how hard the game is
