Dead Rising 2 dev at work on new IP

Capcom hiring a design director to work on third-person action adventure title at Vancouver studio formerly known as Blue Castle.

by

Capcom Vancouver's last project was the zombie action revamp Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, but the studio has more on its slate than simply reanimating existing games. According to a job posting spotted by GamerZines, Capcom Vancouver is now hiring a design director for an original intellectual property.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record was Capcom Vancouver's latest effort.

Capcom Vancouver lists the project as an "unannounced new IP" and a third-person action adventure title. The post also states the developer needs "the help of smart, passionate and dedicated people to help us make our open world action games!" There aren't many other details to be gleaned from the job description, although the note that the design director will be "defining the creative vision for the game" in tandem with the executive producer suggests it isn't going gold anytime soon.

Capcom Vancouver is best known for its work on Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, the former of which it created under the name Blue Castle Games. Prior to Dead Rising 2 and its acquisition by Capcom, Blue Castle worked with Take-Two Interactive on a number of MLB-licensed baseball titles, including The Bigs and The Bigs 2.

Good to hear that Capcom's working on new IPs rather than milking their already famous series with ports and more ports.

This is more than likely part of Capcom's commitment to making more Westernized games. And hey, new IPs are always a good thing

Bionic Commando 2009 was my favorite game this gen,so yes I am sure. Dark void was buggy, yet I still enjoyed it. :P

@slinky3761 You enjoyed 3D Bionic Commando... And Dark Void?.... Are you sure?.... I don't think we were playing the same games.

Hopefully their next project doesn't have unfair time limits, respawning bosses, and save points that don't work.

I'd personally like to see more 3d Bionic Commando, but them getting into open world games could help for that also. Either way linear or open I really liked that game. Dead Rising was good also and I also enjoyed Dark Void,so I think it will be good no matter what it is. My two cents....

If it's good, it's welcome. I can't believe it's been plenty of years since the first dead rising came out. If I remember correctly, I think I watched a live video review about that game. I might be wrong, though. I'm feeling old now.

Why Did the orginal creator went to states. Well to make better looking games well he lost his job for doing rubish games and ya it backfired. Well if there makeing what they like just leave it to them. Im dont know instesting new IP depends whats story like. So for know just bring one more Dead Riseing game plz since i own 2 games Dead Riseing 2 and off the record.

@Legrieme Lighten up buddy, it's all about the bottom line and if it isn't broke. Don't fix it. Obviously these "trash" games sell. And if you're pissed off about everybody buying the same game with a new name...Well, that's a personal problem.

This is good. While I liked the Dead Rising series, it started to get a bit stale to me. It will be nice to see what they come up with. Capcom has been a really good publisher/developer , so I expect it will be a good title. As long as it isn't another Dark Void wannabe.
