Dead Rising 2: Case West set for December

Capcom sets release window for Xbox 360-exclusive addendum to zombie action game, confirms return of photography gameplay mechanic.

Gamers who finished September's Dead Rising 2 know the zombie action game leaves some plot points unresolved. Those loose ends may be tied up soon, as Capcom today confirmed a December launch window for the game's downloadable epilogue, Dead Rising 2: Case West.

Dead Rising 2's sense of humor may not be earnest, but it's about to get a lot more Frank.

The Xbox 360-exclusive Case West features the return of Frank West, the protagonist of the original Dead Rising, as well as his camera. Frank will team up with Chuck Greene, star of Dead Rising 2, to uncover the truth about Phenotrans, the pharmaceutical company behind the Zombrex medication that treats (but doesn't cure) people infected by the undead hordes.

Set at Phenotrans' Fortune City facility, Case West will see the undeath-defying characters resort to their old tricks. The original game's picture-taking gameplay and the sequel's duct tape-driven weapon combinations will both return, with both Chuck and Frank able to snap pics and wield an amalgamated arsenal of odds and ends.

Case West will be the second downloadable Dead Rising offshoot, bookending the story of the original game along with August's Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. Also an Xbox 360 exclusive, Case Zero served as a prequel to the full game, telling the story of how and why Chuck found himself in Fortune City just in time for a catastrophic zombie outbreak.

Can anyone remember that Capcom is doing so great right now financially? They didn't do so well after Lost Planet 2. If they need Microsofts bribe to keep going then go for it. As long as it's for the sake of Capcom getting back on their feet I understand.

@Hanzoadam Due to the plot and storyline of Dead Rising, I assume its got a much bigger fan base in the West than it does in the East.

stupid 360 exclusive, I don't understand it Capcom a huge Japanese company with a huge japanese customer base, the japanese hate xbox 360, So I assume microsoft have paid for this to try and get the JP market to buy 360 again and it always fails and here in the west we suffer for it =[

i know there is a lot of controversy with this 360 exclusive crap, but hey PS3 owners, remember the Joker? And another thing, Capcom made it xbox only for a reason: PS3 owners wouldnt know crap about Frank. Hell, even Wii owners know a lot more about Frank than you guys.

the news about the Case West exclusivity is old, the only news here is it's coming out in December, and besides, Case Zero was exclusive to the Xbox 360 as well, I'd expect less moaning and groaning since this was all known before the game's release

Yeah i couldnt care less. I thought dead rising 2 was one of the most dissapointing games in this year. So i dont care for the exclusive x360 dlc.

Lmao this is why I barely buy Multiplatform games. They pull some bs like that. In my opinion might as kept it a xbox 360 exclusive. All you did was BS PS3 owners. You wanted to broaden the game into a new audience then now you keep it exclusive for the xbox 360 owners afterwards ? LMAO Capcom is full of crap.

Any chance Frank and Chuck can fight it out at the end?

In all likelihood, this 'exclusive' content will be made available to both platforms in a Complete Edition somewhere down the line. We all know how things turned out with TLAD and Gay Tony. Fanboys: grow the F up.

Re; Suprsolider I'm not going to pretend that Microsoft isn't expansionist to a fault. However, when they expand beyond the PC platform then all they're doing is making products. It's up to people whether or not they choose to buy them. Nothing strikes me as particularly greedy about making shoddy products and hoping people will buy them, the responsibility lies on the consumer. Microsoft has as much a right to be involved in games as any other company that people will buy from. The 360 is clearly meeting the demands of a large group of people, whether or not those demands are leading the gaming industry in a bad direction is a separate, but very important, issue.

@EvilGamerD Clearly they won't since other companies have done the same thing with Microsoft, IE Activision.

What's the point of exclusives? Does it make the gamers who get them feel "special"? Theres no point other than quick money in the short run and dividing up the fan base. Games are ment to be played not argued about.

More DLC exclusives. This doesn't make me want to buy an Xbox, just like Assassins Creed's recent DLC didn't make me want to buy a PS3. Instead it just puts me off the game altogether. Fallout3, New Vegas, AC: Brotherhood and now DR2. Shame on you, power to the gamers, aslong as you have the correct console.

I still have yet to grab my copy of Dead Rising 2,but I will hopefully get it once there is a slight price drop. Paying $60 for a game these days is a little hard. I downloaded Case Zero, which I felt like I was tricked into purchasing a demo, but I know some people felt differently, it's just that you were limited to where you could go, and it was only %10 of the actual game. Good news for 360 owners, but you never know if it will actually be exclusive or timed exclusive, which I think timed exclusives are a little annoying. I still have my Bioshock game, which says "only on 360" on the case. Hmm..not true is it?

@Zanoh While PC gaming primarily uses Microsoft's own Windows OS, they don't get money from PC games like they do for 360 games. PC software is so open ended that their real profit is from the original purchase of your computer, just the OS not the hardware, and a few other things. So business wise it unfortunately would benefit Microsoft to kill off PC gaming (and other consoles) and funnel all gamers to 360 where they profit more. As a PC gamer myself I know PC gaming is here to stay and certainly not dead; it takes it's hits from time to time, but it is here to stay.

Toysoldier34

@maximumbarmage If you read my post below your you see that Microsoft pays Capcom great amounts of money. Nearly covering what Capcom would get by releasing the content on other platforms. So to Capcom they still get their money. Though to completely cover such costs usually isn't worth it. So Microsoft either takes a hit hoping that the added incentive to buy their system over others covers their own loss. Or the deal is only temporary, and costing less, as with almost all of the 360's "exclusive" deals. Don't know if people remember, but at E3 a few years back I flipped out when they Microsoft announced Rock Band 2 coming exclusively to the Xbox 360. While that is what they said it was more leaving out important details. Like yes it is coming only to Xbox, but only on the date they announced because it was still releasing everywhere else a month behind after Microsoft payed millions to have them hold the game a month for everyone else. All of the developers do this, just Microsoft does it the most obviously. The PS3 recently and for the foreseeable future is appearing to get more of the "exclusive" deals. It is all financial politics and business that doesn't help us gamers; just the pockets of greedy CEOs like Kotick.

They don't say the release date but I'm happy it will be sometime in December. The original Dead Rising is one of my favorite games ever and I've played through it several times. The sequel in my opinion was absolutely beyond awesome. It was everything I hoped for it to be, but better. Truly an instant classic and Case Zero was great as well. Chuck is a great hero and perfect for DR:2 and Frank West, well he's Frank the best new character in recent memory. This DLC will be epic.
