Dead Rising 2: Case West lurching onto XBL Dec. 27

Second stand-alone spin-off for Capcom's zombie-flush action adventure arrives exclusively on Microsoft's console this month for $10.

by

The problem with zombies is that they don't stay beaten. Proving that sentiment, Capcom confirmed today that those who thought they were done with Dead Rising 2 have more content to look forward to, announcing a December 27 release date for the game's second downloadable spin-off, Case West. The zombie-thrashing action adventure will be available exclusively on the Xbox 360 for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

Case West features the return of Frank West, the protagonist of the original Dead Rising, as well as his camera. Frank will team up with Chuck Greene, star of Dead Rising 2, to uncover the truth about Phenotrans, the pharmaceutical company behind the Zombrex medication that treats (but doesn't cure) people infected by the undead hordes.

Frank apparently will be offering some instruction in photojournalism.

Set at Phenotrans' Fortune City facility, Case West will see the undeath-defying characters resort to their old tricks. The original game's picture-taking gameplay and the sequel's duct-tape-driven weapon combinations will both return, with both Chuck and Frank able to snap pics and wield an amalgamated arsenal of odds and ends.

Case West will be the second downloadable Dead Rising offshoot, bookending the story of the original game along with August's Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. Also an Xbox 360 exclusive, Case Zero served as a prequel to the full game, telling the story of how and why Chuck found himself in Fortune City just in time for a catastrophic zombie outbreak.

@Marky360 You know why I care about PC? Because when Dead Rising 2 came out it was 20 bucks CHEAPER than on consoles. Pc isn't dead and if you would pay attention, digital sales were higher than physical sales this past year anyway.

@mikel222222 I was just stating a common fact with big game expansion packs for multi-format games. They're nearly always only timed exclusives. Grand theft auto being the perfect example. It's better that expansion packs are multiformat, individuals who buy the game in the first place should be entitled to new material. Unfortunately some folk only care about the money and not their loyal gamers.

DR2: Case West looks good, the story seems plausible as both Frank and Chuck have a grudge against Phenotrans, and they would have had to try and find a Lab or someplace that would house evidence for Chuck to use to clear his name. Cant wait, i'll get this the day it comes on XBL.

For some reason I preferred DR1...

Frank better make it into Marvel vs Capcom 3 as well.

Blitz_Kill thay did tell ppl this. the developers did state at TGS that there were bringing out case zero then went on to show case west and this was all before the release of dead rising 2 so all ps3 owners had a choice.

@JustPlainLucas: Case Zero wasn't even a full game. It was one little street with some buildings. It was there to wet peoples' palette for DR2. Which is why it was $5. You could beat it in an hour and a half. For $10 I'm betting we get more than an hour and a half, one street and only some of the weapons to build. This is *not* a bait and switch.

@mightEone: Dead Rising 2 *is* a complete game. DLC, when done properly (as it is in this case), adds onto an already complete game *if you feel like playing more of it*. This isn't even the same storyline as the core game. DLC like this makes me get more play time out of a game I already beat and otherwise would not be playing.

@Marky360 Over 3.3 Million people have brought the new WoW exspansion, Steam sales are at an all time high on the PC. PC gaming is far from dead my friend.

@mikel222222 Its more then likely going to be a timed exclusive. Remember when people said Lost of the Damned and the Ballad of Gay Tony are always going to remain a 360 exclusive because Microsoft dropped 50 Million on them? Yeah, Liberty City Stories or both expansion can be brought separately on the PC and PS3 now =-)

$10 DLC... I remember when games were on cartridges and came complete. There used to be no need for DLC because developers would include the whole game to begin with.

@warhawk-geeby just because GTA does something, doesn't mean everyone else will. Look at their first exclusive Case Zero, umm yeah, its still exclusive.

Exclusive yeah? Okay. Don't worry sony boys, GTAIV expansions were 'exclusive' to the xbox, but give it a while and you'll get them. It's Microsoft's way of cleverly wording their deals. I don't own this game but I just thought I'd cheer those folks up that think they won't be getting this. You will.

So Frank's awesome idea after narrowly escaping his certain demise in DR1 is to return to a zombie wasteland once again in DR2. Talk about pushing your luck.

fallout dlc , now this ... it kinda sux but it shows how strong the ps3 got cause ms dont allow the dlcs to come to ps3 too.... but its kind of sad that some devs prefer microsofts money more than being loyal to their fanbase (people who bought their product)

I had the game for 2 months i only played for 2 hours and then gt5 came Am looking forward to spending more time to enjoy the unqueness of this game. I think this Sux that it's gonna cost 800 ms points and not be 5 bucks like the First one was but I guess it doesn't matter to me because I decided to get this game for the PS3 instead of for my 360.

I just hope it's bigger than Case Zero or I'll feel ripped off. Case Zero was already a bit small even for $5. It was fun though and added to the story but still should have been a bit bigger.

Its a shame that it won't be on PSN. DR1 wasn't on PS3, then we got charity when DR2 came out and it was for both systems. Now they are taking another step back and releasing this one for strictly XBLA. I don't mind all that much except that developers should have clearly stated plans ahead of time, instead of flip-flopping due to company pressures or other alterior motives.

This wasn't even done and was still being worked on after DR2 was out. A developer even said after DR2 was out they were still working on it and trying to get it out the door as soon a possible. If you really feel cheated it wasnt included then DR2, then i am sure you would be fine with DR2 being delayed untill possibly December so this could be in too right? anyway the only bummer is that this is gonna come after Christmas, i was hoping for something to play on Chirstmas and more DR would have been good.^_^ Also 800 points, its not the awesome 400 points that Case Zero was, but oh well, still looks awesome.

Don't forget about those of use who bought it 20 dollars cheaper brand new on PC! Oh wait, you don't care about us? Not the first time. Lame.

According to Game Informer, you can ONLY play as Frank West in SOMEONE ELSE'S co-op game. Playing solo is restricted to Mr. Greene. It is good that it is stand-alone, so people who bought it on PS3, but own a 360 can still play it, but if it is true that Frank West is henchman only, I'll pass. I am tired of game companies trying to force me to play co-op in single player games. I HAVE multiplayer games for playing MP. Stick to what you are good at at. (I am talking to you Capcom and Lionhead.)

So what, now the PS3 owners don't also have the right to know the end of the game? I have hopes that this might be a temporary exclusivity right for Xbox, like what happened with GTA: Episodes From Liberty City, but it's still kind of sucky >: (

I'm against DLC that chops off an integral part of the main storyline and then sells it. This isn't a new perspective, a side mission, or a semi-related task...it's the conclusion to the game's plot. It's not right.

Venom341
Venom341

I can see how this is fair enough. Look at Capcom's Zombie series games. Resident Evil was mostly on Playstation until Resident Evil 5 was released. Dead Rising on the 360 (don't count chop til drop, it was a spin-off) was then put into the PS3. I could understand Case Zero, but Case West....eh, should be for both.
