Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, the "definitive" version of the fighter, will launch this fall for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Tecmo Koei announced today. It will be available at retail and digitally.

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is a repackaging of the 2012 brawler and will include all new modes from Dead or Alive 5 Plus, new stages and fighters (including Ninja Gaiden's Momiji), as well as levels from the Ninja Gaiden series.

Other characters in Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate include Ryu Hayabusa, Hayate, Ayane, Kasumi, Hitomi, Bayman, Christie, Lei Fang, Zack, Kokoro, Bass, Rig, Jann Lee, Helena, Lisa, Brad Wong, Eliot, and Tina, as well as Akira, Pai, and Sarah Bryant from the Virtua Fighter series.

I'm a DoA collector.  I'm still getting this even tho I already have 5 for 360 and 5+ for VITA!

Is there a petition already up for a PC version?

Go ahead trolls if you want to say "PCs blah blah, not for games blah blah"; but petitions do work if enough signs happen- that's how Dark Souls got a PC version, and the upcoming Metal Gear Revengeance, and Mortal Kombat Komplete. The big Japanese developers seem to be turning their heads towards the PC, as well as consoles, these days.

It'd look and be fantastic on PC.

Still not a fan of the wind-effect, but this Ultimate version seems to have so much more content over DOA4 (yes no typo) that I'll get it

Thank God I didn't bother buying DOA5 last year. I knew it wasn't going to measure-up even close to DOA4. However, I will get DOA5 Ulimate through gamefly this fall; play it and see if its actually any good. I'll make my final thoughts rest there on buying it or not. Because Pai is in it, that helps alot with liking this title more, since I love Asian women alot.

This should be released as an add on for people who already own the original.

Team ninja could charge 4.99 for Momiji and add the new Ninja Gaiden level for free like they did Zack Island. They could even do the whole add on for 14.99 like capcom did with super street fighter 4 arcade edition. This would be better than making people pay for another retail priced copy.

Thanks team asshole I'm glad I bought the standard copy now.

This is why you never purchase fighters day one.... they just end up repackaging them at a lower price point.

Dead or Alive's new tagline should be, "Don't let anybody walk in on you."

This saved me money and time, I wanted to buy this game.

Instead of putting "Contains content that may be inappropriate for children" in the disclaimer of that teaser, they should use something more succinct and relevant to this generation:

"Kids....GTFO."

They couldn't make this an update, or even a DLC? Will these upgrades only be available to this new edition?

Good thing I didn't buy the vita version

So basically, they're pulling a Capcom.  This is why I never buy a fighting game at launch and wait for them to release the definitive version that's for some reason not available as DLC.

What am I going to do with my DOA5 then? no one's gonna buy it xD

and the game its not even a year old...

I'm sooooo glad I waited on buying the original version.  Stuff like this is a slap to the buyers of these people's games.  Instead of doing patches or expansions on the already existing game, they cut a new game and charge full price.

I'll wait until this version hits $20 before I buy it.

All the bugs and irregularities in the boob effects have been fixed. Camera angles have been optimized for all the skirt shots you could want. This is clearly the  "definitive" edition here folks...

If they make this update not only a disc release, but also DLC like Super Street Fighter IV AE, and sell it at a discounted price, then this will do pretty well.

Tecmo VS. Namco would be better... lol

I don't know I feel about this as I technically got Dead or Alive 5 'free' on PlayStation Plus

Well that's good to know.I'm at least glad I waited on Injustice seeing as how Netherrealms did the DLC thing FADC in to Komplete Edition. LOL I should sell my DOA.I never did use the Online Pass either and its time isn't up yet.....I think I might be able to make someone happy!

should be renamed as Super Dead or Alive 5

Just another reason to not buy games at launch. The better version always comes out a year later.

I bought $90 worth of DLC costumes from the PS3 version. Plus I own the Vita version. I should get Ultimate for free. Also, LEON'S BACK.

Here's what most of us want out of DOA5 Ultimate: several new characters, new stages, special "death-match" modes, special guest-character crossovers, Chun-Li

What we'll probably get out of DOA5 Ultimate:  one new stage, one new character, secret naked code, $60 price tag and no upgrade option

Capcom weren't the first and were never the only publisher re-releasing games. In the 16 bit era, Sega had Platinum Collection, Gold Collection and Classics label, then later on it was Platinum on PS1, again on PS2. Those labels still exist today (PS3 Essentials, for example) but fewer titles are published under such labels. We also have HD releases of previous gen games now. There's no reasons video game publishers shouldn't be able to sell their old games.

Why a small minority go apeshit every time a game gets re-released, especially when its bundled with something the original didn't include, I'll never understand. Its some sense of entitlement, like "because I bought X game, I deserve Y and Z". No, you don't.

Video games: The only medium in the world where it is apparently not okay to re-release or re-package old products when they are no longer selling.

DOA5 is long past its lifespan, the game is no longer selling, Tecmo-Koei have every right to re-release their product and bundle it with whatever they like, at whatever price they like. If you feel like they owe you something just because you bought the original game, then you have some serious greed issues, pal.

@willzihang Yes it does look better on PC, but the number one reason why developers doesn't like to put their games on PC is that it will be pirated way too easy compared from the console

based on what you said that? more characters and costume don't increase longevity. it need more single player modes.

@arc_salvo I have to wonder: wouldn't just releasing all this extra stuff as DLC make them more money, since they wouldn't have to print new retail discs? Does selling a "Director's Cut" at full retail mitigate the costs of producing all those discs?

Yomigaeru
Yomigaeru

@raahsnavj It has Momiji...that's all I need to know.

...what? You thought I played Dead or Alive and didn't care about the eye candy?

Yomigaeru
Yomigaeru

@soulless4now You've got a point. On the other hand, if people didn't buy these games at launch (first month sales seem to be what they really watch), then we might not get these re-releases.

@jsmoke03 Seeing how successful Capcom is in nickel and diming people time and time again solely because it works, Tecmo is fine. They already did this with Ninja Gaiden 3 and Razor's Edge anyway and have a history of rereleasing DOA2 a billion times with new stuff and graphics each time as well. This is why I wait now.

acealexander702
acealexander702

@badwedgie00 well, if they really did add a naked code, it'd definitely sell, and I'd probably buy it myself lol :P

Yomigaeru

@Lhomity It's kinda sad that it's past its lifespan when it hasn't even been out a whole year yet.

billzihang

@DEATH775 @willzihang That isn't an argument though, because most games do come out on PC as well as on consoles.
That isn't the reason; it's far more likely to be that they don't think it will sell well enough on PC to give them the kind of profit margins they demand. Judging by how Mortal Kombat sold on PC - and the Street Fighter 4 games do well enough, it is a poor assumption.
They need to fire their market researchers.

soulless4now
soulless4now

@Yomigaeru That's true as well. We should be glad there are those willing to pay full price unlike cheapskates like myself.

soulless4now
soulless4now

@WarBabay2 I did that once back in the ps2 era but that was only because my ps2 stopped playing my blue disc of Virtua Fighter 4 so I got VF4 Evolution when that came out. :P

Lhomity
Lhomity

@Yomigaeru @Lhomity Sad, but true of most games on the market. They generally have a small sales window, often of about 3 months or less, to sell. After that, used sales take over, and/or interest dries up. Some games reach their sales targets during this time; some don't.

Of course, some franchises enjoy much longer shelf-lives, due to demand: Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil, Call of Duty, Battlefield, FIFA, Final Fantasy, Halo, Pokemon, and the like. But this makes up a minority of total games on the market.

On the other hand, I've never heard anybody getting upset over
a Deluxe Collector's Edition DVD with "bonus, never-before-seen" features - or a Blu-Ray release of a film someone bought a DVD 5 years ago. Lots of other products of all types are often repackaged and re-released in some form, to boost sales, expand an audience, renew interest, and so on. Lots of these things also get price drops. Video game publishers should be able to do the same with their products without being blasted for it.
