[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, Warner Bros. confirmed that Dying Light is not in development for the Wii U.

The original story follows below

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced Dying Light, an open-world first-person survival horror game from Dead Island and Call of Juarez developer Techland.

The game will launch in 2014 for next-generation platforms like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, current-generation systems including the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as the PC.

No mention was made of a Wii U release, and a Warner Bros. representative could not be reached for comment.

Dying Light features a full day-night cycle. In the day, players will explore an urban environment beset by "a vicious outbreak." Gamers must scavenge the world for supplies and weapons to defend themselves from the infected.

When day turns to night, "the hunter becomes the hunted," Warner Bros. said. The infected will become aggressive during the evening, and certain predators will appear only after sundown.

"The next-gen technology allows us to create a truly dynamic open world that features a game-changing day-night cycle," said Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka in a statement. "Inventive free-running mechanics also allow for nearly unrestricted exploration and weapon crafting to further enhance the action survival experience."

Techland shipped Dead Island: Riptide last month and released the downloadable game Call of Juarez: Gunslinger a few weeks ago. The Polish developer is also working on a current-generation cooperative hack-and-slash game called Hellraid.

I'm actually excited for this, dead island, while it had it's flaws was enjoyable.
this could be a more refines version that fixes a lot of dead islands problems?
I like the idea of the day/night cycle too and night time being dangerous.

I just hope they don't make me kick zombies in the face ten times just to kill one.

I still want a Dead Rising 3 that takes place in an infested airport linked to a mall.

Why is it that all the pictures have sun flares in the background?! That's an old trick I can even use it in Minecraft!

Finally, a new zombie game, we have been waiting for years and years!

Are they really advertising a day/night cycle as an innovative feature? I remember that being exciting in Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the N64. Seems similar to how they advertised Riptide's "multi-floor level design" as some crazy new idea (we get it, you added lots of ladders).

At this point that's just not surprising any more.

Virtually no new multi-plat games are coming to Wii U.

looks generic, dont give a crap.

Before we go on how bad third party relations are

WB announced a third party wii u exclusive last week

dre256x
dre256x

So the Wii U is more powerful than the 360/ps3 and its not coming to that system?  It goes to show you that Nintendo 3rd party relations isn't good, as most dev's have it that only Nintendo games sell well on there system...

ck10304, your post is the type of comment I wish I did not have to read but will continue to exist if the editor keeps propagating this type of behavior with flame bait writing. Nothing against ck just don't have any more patience for this crap that gamespot has created and then let all the flies hover around it.

We need a good 3rd person zombie game not another first person. View is terrible and it really takes from the experiance. Imagine a good rpg 3rd person zombie game with lots of finish moves. Blood and gore and 3rd person.

I will have 3 systems this game could be played on and I won't be getting it on any of those either. Techland hasn't proven to me they are anything but a mediocre studio with uninspired concepts.

poptart28

I am not feeling a difference between this game and riptide. It all looks the same.
Concerning this news article, why must the news editor focus a negative light on certain systems when in fact the news should focus on the game. Stop fanning the flames when you don't need to. This is a cheap way to get your post count up with nothing but fanboy comments. It is not easy wading through all the garbage in the comment section looking for interesting posts from people if the editor is not interested in creating a good discussion.

The zombies look like witches from 70's horror movies.

Don't care for the game, good lighting though, last shot looks a bit weird.

A zombie GTA? Sounds good! But they need to ditch current gen consoles. They'd be wasting less resources that way.

here is what I think about weapon crafting...

FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

play stalker, learn from it, play metro too, play some amnesia, play RE1,2,3, and 4 stop here..... now..... make a bigger open world...ok.... now make the setting even more hostile.... good ...... add atmosphere.... make ammo count..... make zombies an actual threat (im looking at u dead island) remove the possibility of defeating anything more than one zombie with melee... good.

there u go a free advice for a good zombie game

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh im getting this for the xone baby!!!

Dead Island one was... mediocre. RipTide appears to be more of the same...

Who knows, maybe the dev team has learned some key do's and don'ts the hard way. This game could be all you want from a zombie apocalypse scenario.

Or it could be arse.

poor Wii U... once again...

I'm still very skeptical about these types of games, especially with what happened to everybody's favorite WarZ. But the screens and concepts look and sound solid enough, so I really want this to be true.

BTW, is this singleplayer or multiplayer like DayZ (yes, the better one)?

A little advice, Techland? If this IS MP (or even if it's not), don't turn us all into little Rambos and Chuck Norrises. Make us (including the military elites) the nearly-extinct in-despair underdogs, just like what we are in World War Z (yes, the book) or TWD. It won't solve ALL the player-killing problems in the World (there will always be real-life Governors among us). But if there are too many of the undead (again, read WWZ) and if we TRULY know and feel that it's just a handful of us now, it'd at least make a-holes think twice about killing potential allies and reinforcing the ranks of the opposition. And it'd certainly be much scarier.

Dead Island Riptide is a poverty game. So cheaply made. So not that interested about this. But we will see.

Hmm interesting, but I was really looking forward for dead island as well. When I started dead island I quickly found out that the game had much that did not really work well, driving, melee combat not to talk about the shooting in the game, movement for your character and the graphics are not really that good. The screenshots for this game and what they have to say about the movement for your character are promising though :) What I hope is that this game is standard singleplayer and not like dead island standard 4 player coop, when I played dead island alone it had a eary feeling, when I played it coop that was gone and I was just running around like Rambo chopping away. Oh one more thing that really bothered me about dead island and that was a big thing was the really bad characters in the game, I hope that this game will have a character that is more serious and emotionally involved.

jecomans

@Ayzed Does it not remind you somewhat of the recent I Am Legend film? I wonder if you can talk to mannequins in the game, too? I've never liked anything by Techland, but this looks quite convincing.

@Dangerous231 and 1 \(-.-\) and 2 (/-.-)/ SAY P S 4, AGAIN P S 4, do you know why ? cuz ps4 has 88% likes and XASS..... Sorry i meant X "ONE" has only 12% likes.

oOhedzOo

@snova9308 it's not the zombies that are bad. they're just tools used for horror in the past but now it's just another "Shoot the Ducks" game.

I honestly hate it when it is not taken seriously.

Grenadeh

@OdinssonThor Actually 3rd person takes from the experience inherent to zombies - horror - because you can see everything. Being able to see more than in front of you takes any sense of suspense or terror out of anything.

dre256x

@OdinssonThor   Reason is with 1st person the action is viewed more up close, so its easy to create tension etc in that view...

@SunnySkyNL Are you on crack? Characters that sucked bothered you, in a zombie game. Name for me one single character ever in any zombie game that isn't one-dimensional pure shit. Who? Leon kennedy? Jill valentine? Because they both have become shit no matter if they were ever any good.

snova9308

@StealthOmega @dre256x

oh wow, one single third party company is giving them a chance, well this changes everything doesn't it?

I guess Wii U owners should cry with joy.

who cares about the unreal engine or the frostbite engine not being on the Wii U, they got friggin WB

SunnySkyNL
SunnySkyNL

@Grenadeh @SunnySkyNL Lee Everett from Telltale's the Walking Dead? Just because characters are bad in zombie games most of the time does not mean that it's impossible to change that. That's why I'm really looking forward to the Last of Us, maybe not 100% a zombie game but it shows it's possible to give a game like that good story and well written characters. And I agree that the RE charcters now are like super heroes and just stupid. I miss the days you had to struggle to end a survival horror game, not that you can call most of the games these days survival horror anyway. Looking forward to the Evil within as well.
