Dead Island 2 -- Place Your Vote Now on Collector's Edition Items

Deep Silver launches community survey to gauge interest in upcoming premium bundle; options include beer cooler case and bloodied inflatable beach ball, among others.

Deep Silver has launched a community survey in hopes of gathering feedback from fans about what they would like to see in a collector's edition bundle for upcoming zombie game Dead Island 2. Sound familiar? Deep Silver held a similar survey for Saints Row IV last year.

"Let us know what you want in a Collector's Edition, and we will select the most popular items to create a unique Collector's Edition for Dead Island 2 that matches what YOU want," Deep Silver writes on the survey page.

There are 28 options in all, and you are asked to rate them on a scale of 1 ("do not want") to 5 ("I need this!"). Some of the choices are a beer cooler, bloodied inflatable beach ball, a zombie flag of California, and a Dead Island 2 beach towel.

Dead Island 2 launches in spring 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Unlike the original, Dead Island 2 is in development at Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager, not Techland. The open-world game is set several months after the original and takes place in California.

It's not the only new Dead Island game in the works, however. Deep Silver is also working on a budget-priced stylized stealth game called Escape Dead Island for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Oh, and there's also the MOBA Dead Island Epidemic...and a Dead Island movie.

Had a blast with the first one, played almost none of Riptide. Hopeful for this one, tho.

My vote is a real zombie. If they can do this, they will start the epidemic.

Oh, and a bloody beach towel. Because we live at the beach, so why not?

I'd love to purchase the collector's addition of this game, but I can't for health reasons.

My wife would kill me...

I don't understand why Dead Island has such a following. It's just a mediocre beat 'em up with pretty graphics. Maybe I'm missing something.

I'm not a fan of the Dead Island franchise, I loved the idea of the original game and ended up buying it on day one.
Not only did I think the gameplay felt poor (kick kick kick kick), and the plot was sort of pathetic, but there were also online issues back then which just gave me an overall bad experience with the game and Techland in general.

I didn't play Riptide, but from the looks of it, it was pretty much the same game; might as well have been a DLC expansion.
Dying Light also looks like the same game, albeit with parkour and a day-night system implemented, neither of which impress me in the slightest.

All that being said, if Dead Island 2 is being made by Yager instead of Techland, I'll have to see how this game looks.
Heck, I may end up getting and loving it.

I chose do not want for everything since there shouldn't be this kind of practice in the first place.

My suggestions: 1) Include unique and usable DLC(which wont be offered out of the Edition via marketplace/online store) 2) include the season pass, 3) Concept art w/ staffs autographs numbered w/ certificate 4) Something usable and of good quality i.e book ends. Those are my top 4 content I look for in a collector's edition.

MK9 had the best collector's edition, They had the ultimate edition with the best fight stick ever made(yea fight stick wouldn't work here), and a cheaper edition that offered bookends. Dead Space 1 Ultimate Edition came with exclusive DLC, Concept art signed, a movie and misc. stuff. Dead Rising 2 had a chance to win a life size zombie replica ticket inside. Be creative but stop releasing low quality junk.

Include the game (Can't believe I'm saying this)

I don't suppose there's an option for the complete game for a one time purchase price? I mean really, if I'm shelling out the extra money up front, can I at least not have to buy the DLC later?

No collector's edition is my vote! Since you won't do that, I have no opinion because I won't be buying it.

@Too-DementeD I thought Dead Island was average. The repetition of the combat, poor selection of characters, and ridiculous plot brought it down. Riptide was pretty much testing ground for the company to sell the same game with a few minor upgrades.

They're really going to have to present themselves well for me to purchase this next one.

@deadpeasant You shouldn't have bothered answering then. It says on the survey anything that answers as "do not want" will be discarded. Sooo...you wasted your time, & didn't get your point across Lol

soccerpzn

@deadpeasant why? a lot of idiotic people keep saying this yet they don't even provide a good reasoning for it.

qtmew

@EasyComeEasyGo Sadly, no. Why? Because people keep on supporting malicious practices..

spacecadet25

@unreal849  Which is exactly why they need this contest.  With Dead Island Riptide they showed that haven't a clue on what good Collectors Edition stuff would be.

ggregd

@soccerpzn @deadpeasant It's a scam.  Publishers want to charge more for games, but consumers won't pay more than $60.00 up front, so they split parts of the game out into DLC, charge more for editions with some (temporary) extra content, throw some trinkets in and charge much more than they're worth, etc. etc.

EasyComeEasyGo

Just want to make sure what I'm getting first. Also I'm leading forward to buying Dying Light then Dead Island 2. Dying Light has that Day N Night cycle and Nightfall is said to be even deadlier then daylight.

Me too! ;)

Especially the ones that make me smile.

soccerpzn
soccerpzn

@ggregd @soccerpzn @deadpeasant Yea because all collectors editions just sell some crappy trinkets, which clearly shows that you have never bought a collectors edition or bother to even know what most of them usually contain. And your dumb split up parts of the game DLC theory has nothing to do with collector editions so i don't know why you are even mentioning that.

qtmew
qtmew

@punksterdaddy @qtmew I hope we have more people like you that know good practices from bad ones. The worst part is, gamers will vote on this one. Companies will take more notice and take advantage to sell their Microtransactions everywhere.

terrariafan247
terrariafan247

@soccerpzn @ggregd @deadpeasant You must be very naive if you think developers don't split parts of games off for pre-order DLC. As for the "trinkets" most of them are crap. Some of the statues are nice but for the price most of them are a waste of money.

soccerpzn
soccerpzn

@qtmew @punksterdaddy Please explain how a collectors edition is bad practice? and your trying to relate microtransactions to the collectors edition which makes no sense since their is no relation.

punksterdaddy

@qtmew @punksterdaddy

Sadly most gamers seem to eat this sh*te up, which makes me wonder how many will click on the link to the survey above? Which is fine if you like it but I don't.

qtmew
qtmew

@punksterdaddy @qtmew True. I don't think it's "fine" though, every action has reaction, and every reaction has another reaction etc.. When people do that and justify it by saying: It's totally cool and it's my own money! - Well, the lot of us, we get bad practices that we never asked for. I think we should be more responsible with our money.

Jaxith
Jaxith

@qtmew @punksterdaddy  What you're saying basically amounts to, "People should abstain from things that they like, because they should know that *I* don't like it and base their decisions around that(me)."  That's a really selfish perspective.

I also think you're severely blowing the repercussions of taking a survey out of proportion.  It might affect what's in this Collector's Edition, and may inspire other companies to do the same with theirs.  What it won't do is send the entire gaming industry down a spiral of self-destruction.  The industry isn't that fragile.

punksterdaddy
punksterdaddy

@qtmew @punksterdaddy

Sshhh. I said that it's fine to avoid the very likely angry comments from people who love that crap. I am not okay with it really. Keep it to yourself though?

Oh right, this is public.

qtmew

@punksterdaddy @qtmew I understand what its like to be hammered by "justice" when your opinion is different :/. Oh speaking of justice, how about that Social Justice agenda in gaming lately? Hehehe
