De La Hoya covering Fight Night Round 3

Welterweight champ will be spokesathlete for the Xbox 360 and PSP editions of EA's pugilist fest.

Electronic Arts has announced the cover athlete (pictured) for their latest boxing game, Fight Night Round 3. The plucky pugilist in question will be Oscar De La Hoya, the former WBC & WBA super welterweight champion, WBC welterweight and super lightweight champion, and 1992 Olympic gold medalist.

The 34-year-old will grace the covers of the Xbox 360 and PSP versions of the game, which are due out next month. "It's exciting to be contributing to a project that pushes the popularity of boxing to a new level and to a new audience," he said in a statement.

February will also see the release of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of Fight Night Round 3. Those editions of the title will feature two kings of the ring--fellow welterweight champs Arturo "Thunder" Gotti and "Irish" Micky Ward--as cover boxers.

EA should put Manny Pacquiao as the cover athlete. I think he deserves it.

Played the demo from Live and I hope there are speed settings in the full version, because the fighters move so slow it's rediculous. They claimed fighters really have their styles in this one but even Roy Jones moves around like he's Lennox Lewis.

wonder how much $$$$ he got for that?

What do I care....I dont even like boxing. The only real reason I'm interested in this is because I want to see exaclty what these machines are capable visually.

Dead or alive 4 is the best fighting game I've ever played. On another note we can't compare it to fight night 2 different types of games. I never understood why people tried to decide which game is better because of genre. If its a game about painting, or shooting guns or shooting a basketball in the hoop we should instantly accept it as that and see if its the BEST game for the type of game it is only comparing it to other games in its genre. But naturally if the game is terrible you can say so without a genre bias, but I don't think fight night will be bad at all.

I think he will fight this year though ... right?!?!?!? I think it is versus Ricardo Mayorga (which Trinidad whipped on the seventh round!). Anyway, I think one of the new comers or actual good boxers should have been selected and the list is long like: Floyd Mayweather Jr Jose Luis Castillo Ronald Wright Manny Pacquiao Zab Judah Ricky Hatton etc.

Some of you guys need to learn how to spell and make a coherent sentence. Anyway, just more crap. Get Dead or Alive, that's a real fighting game!

Bazfrag wait I agree with you except when he really got beat by Shane Mosley twice. But the list of rigged fights for De La Hoyas is Long. I guess if you win a gold medal your an automatic champ. Having De La Hoya on the cover sucks but hopefully they put more Fighter in the game.
