DDR, Karaoke songs played out

Konami reveals pop-tastic tracks for DDR Ultramix 4, DDR Supernova, Karaoke: American Idol.

While compiling soundtracks to most games is perfunctory, certain games live and die by the tunes it includes. Konami has been in the music-based rhythm game market for a while now, and it knows that selecting the right tracks is crucial to the success of its Dance Dance Revolution and Karaoke games. Today, the company revealed a trio of tracklistings for its upcoming dancing and singing games.

In late September, Konami will release Dance Dance Revolution Supernova for the PlayStation 2. The game, which supports the EyeToy peripheral, has the largest number of songs of any DDR title released in the US, and includes contributions from Fall Out Boy, Franz Ferdinand, and David Bowie.

In November, it's Xbox owners' chance to dance with Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 4. In addition to a soundtrack that includes Pussycat Dolls, Jungle Brothers, and Stray Cats, Xbox Live subscribers will be able to download new song packs. Ultramix 4 will also support head-to-head online play, live chat, and Internet rankings.

If toe-tapping isn't your thing, Konami's Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol will get the vocal chords going. The PlayStation 2 game will pit would-be crooners before a judging panel of Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson, two of the judges from American Idol. Using the EyeToy camera, gamers can put their faces on their onscreen avatars in order to really feel like they are taking a verbal lashing from Cowell.

None of the games have yet been rated by the ESRB.

Below is a partial listing of the songs available in each game.

"No All-American Rejects in any of them -sigh- Why are using old songs get with the current songs." Perhaps because all the current songs are terrible and are performed by people that aren't talented in any way whatsoever. Older songs are performed by people who could at least sing, and in this age of Britney and Akon and whoever else is popular this week, good singing's a rarity.

this game (karaoke revolution American Idol sounds to be the best game ever created. i do have the karaoke revolution party and it kicks, but this one sounds so much better. it has a lot of the songs that i really like and i am a big fan of singing. i hope it is available in my are. Bathurst New Brunswick. Canada. hope to get it, and have fun y'all

No All-American Rejects in any of them -sigh- Why are using old songs get with the current songs.

Karaoke American Idol... They just had to put in "She Bangs", didn't they? hahaha.

as long as sales stay constant without dropping off completely, they're going to just keep releasing these series to death. DDR: Extreme introduced the EyeToy capability, which was nice... but not really that widely used. what are they introducing to the series anymore, except for a few new songs?

good good, SUPERNOVA HERE I GO....wait, what happened to the 360 DDR game? DDR: Universe if im not mistaken? yea, I WANT THAT GAME

Those are by NO means complete lists. Supernova is supposed to be carrying songs in the 60+ songs. Those are most of the new songs. But yet again they skip the good arcade songs and give us americanized versions.

Battle Without Honor or Humanity - Tomoyasu Hotei WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO .... KILL BILL VOL1 !!!!!!

The game was fun using my own tracks

I messed with a DDR machine once...and embarassed myself. I liked the dance mix though. Those don't sound like they go fast enough. Then again I don't know all of them.

Not bad lists, for the DDR games anyway, but I'd really like to see a 360 DDR sooner than later that has an equal number of tracks to the arcade versions.

Needs more REAL club music and less crap.

I don't quite like some of the songs in the list

prodigy and blue october? interesting. won't buy it either way but some cool tunes.

Talk to me tell me your name. You blow me off like it's all the same. I'm practicing to be the next William Hung! She bangs, she bangs!

wow all the songs lists look cool..............................But i'm planning on getting SuperNova.......

What the hell is Konami thinking?! The SuperNOVA list is insane, and in a good way I think. I've never seen a roster like this in a DDR game before. And Juno Reactor on Ultramix 4? Something like this will either make them or break them. And the only way to tell is to pick up both when they come out.

With Karaoke I'll be recreating Top Gun with You've Lost that Lovin Feeling!!! AWESOME! Now let's see a big list for Guitar Hero 2. I know it isn't the same company but it is a music game. I also realized that there be some Bohemian Rhapsody. The guitar is awesome in that song and it is a slightly longer song.

Heh, just from this list I'm guessing that a good portion of SuperNOVA's new songs aren't making it into the home version. So much for using it for practice. Plus, I'm hearing rumors that the memory slots aren't going to be added to the arcade version after all, and that we won't be able to finally create Edit steps on American versions and bring them to the arcade LIKE WE WERE PROMISED. First the offsync songs and now this. SuperNOVA seems almost synonymous with "disappointment."

They better have some Healing Vision in Supernova.....:| (PS2 Version) And no comment to "Dance, Dance" by Fall Out Boy. :|:|:| (I hate that song)

The PS2 version better have that "300" song thing as stated on the previews.

Wow, that Karaoke tracklist sucks. There's a couple cool things on there but what a waste overall. I wish they would start doing genre packs like SingStar does in Europe. SingStar has much better tracklists but the game isn't supposed to be that great...

They have Funkytown in Supernova... wow.

Supernova will be #1 on my list. It has an awesome soundtrack that Ultramix doesn't even come close too.

I don't care about the other songs. Xepher is all i need.

Piano man? Poison? Awesome!

That's quite a song list for both the DDR games I must get them both, toot sweet!

lmao... they're putting alternative music in... How do you dance to "Dance, Dance?" it's not even catchy

Yeah, I'm surprised that DDR Universe for X360 wasn't mentioned in this article, it's supposedly a Q4 2006 release still. Hopefully this latest Ultramix will be X360 compatible as well for a change.

we'll see how Dance Factory turns out working. If it can do what it claims, then maybe DDR will be rendered useless...Wouldn't count on it though.

wow! SuperNOVA will have Fall Out Boy and Franz Ferdinand?! i'll have to get that one over Ultramix 4

oh... "partial" list... tisk tisk... should have read the whole thing...

crap! where is AA in DDR supernova?? /cry... the arcade version has it..

Wasn't there an Xbox360 version in the works? What happened to that?
