DC's Movie of The Flash Will Be Unconnected to the TV Show

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is fully integrated into TV shows such as Agents of SHIELD and Daredevil, it has been less clear about whether any of DC's movie universe would overlap with their growing roster of TV properties. It has now been confirmed that the Flash movie, due in 2018, will have no connection to the show that currently airs on The CW.

In an interview with Collider, the film's producer Charles Roven spoke about the success of the show, which stars Grant Gustin, and how the movie version would stand alone from it. "Our Flash is gonna be not that guy. [Gustin is] terrific. I think that whether it's The Flash or Arrow, they're doing a great job with the TV shows. Gotham, that show's really terrific. And we obviously wish them the best.

"It's gonna be interesting to see what happens when we have a different Flash in a different universe. We're gonna try to stay in our universe and they're gonna be staying, I think, in their universe, and hopefully the audiences will embrace both. I think they can. You know, Supergirl is not in our universe, and that seems to be doing quite well."

The film of The Flash will star Ezra Miller as super-fast hero Barry Allen, with Seth Grahame-Smith on board to write and direct. When asked about the progress of the movie, Roven said: "We are in the script stage. Early, early, early in the script stage."

In the meantime, Miller is expected to make an appearance in next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Flash will arrive in cinemas in March 2018.
