DayZ stand-alone's first in-game footage released

Fifteen-minute developer blog for DayZ shows off clothing, new island, and beans.

by

The first footage of the upcoming stand-alone version of DayZ has been released, showing 15 minutes of gameplay from the popular zombie survival game.

DayZ creator Dean "Rocket" Hall and production assistant Matt Lightfoot are playing the game, talking over the footage, and, in one bit, are taking off their in-game trousers.

The look of the menus and UI have also been streamlined and shown off, with the player's current avatar shown off in the background of the main menu.

The rest of the video shows off improvements to the map--including swamps, an expanded military base, and a new island--alongside a new method of spawning loot in buildings. Scavenging in the stand-alone version of DayZ looks like it might be particularly tricky, seeing as items (such as the tin of beans shown in the video) can spawn behind and under other objects.

As for when the game might head into open beta, Hall said that there was "no time frame" for this but that the development team is focused on making more information about DayZ available via blog posts and additional videos.

After mastering the game ( all best gear) it went down hill (after a few weeks). Seem's everyone's ambition is to find that sniper and camp near Cherno for hour's killing bambi's (not interested in that, get's boring fast). This game look's a rush job that has been copied and pasted from the last and won't bring a new experience, just new map's, which is very dissapointing because the dayz mod concept was great but LOAD'S of flaw's which people who wasn't so easily addicted walked away from. Unfortunatly this look's exactly the same and will carry all the same flaw's as the last. I was a dumb enthusiast thinking they could create a new dayz from last Aug that was alot better than the current...which now I think about it, was never going to happen.

I just wanna know more about how the zombies will react to the player..  Cause as it stands now in the mod, you can be a mile away from any and still get that off in the distance zombie coming after you even when your being sneaky....

I care a little if the game still uses Arma2 engine, im really worried about the hackers and stuff.

I know it's pessimistic and cynical of me, but it doesn't really matter how well this gets made. The major flaw with it will always be the players. While there will be a handful of mature people who want to enjoy it, the overabundance of hackers and people who'll just shoot on sight and add no substance of rolepay will ruin the potential.  It happens every time. Frankly, I'm tired of it. And yeah, I'm sure a lot of people will like it for the reasons I stated, because, well, they'll be the people doing it.

What I would like to see in this is people forming groups, making strategies to go out and find supplies, and surviving for more than just an hour or so. Not just bang bang spawn spawn bang spawn spawn bang.

I was really hoping there would be some sort of single player or even multiplayer with just friends. I sort of knew it wouldn't happen. But this is my dream game. And the social factor has kept it just that for me.

I wonder what he was about to say about seeing if there was a player in a town from seeing zombies in the town. Did they make it so you can't tell that way anymore? That'd be good.

Great concept, horrible production values.

Dice or maybe the FarCry Devs need to get into the sand box - zombie market. I like realism factors like needing to eat and drink, but the game is just too damn clunky like most military "sims" are.

I have to say, judging by a lot of the comments, it seems like most people's complaints about Day Z/Arma stem from them simply not knowing all of the options/button schemes.

Remeber, Arma's as close to a military simulator we get with modern releases, and like any simulator you really should look at the controls before jumping into the game. It's not CoD.

Picking up an item.... without going into your inventory? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have not played DayZ yet, but I've always been interested in playing in.  I think I might just wait for the stand alone at this point.  It looks pretty good as of right now.  I wish I saw some zombies, because I know the animation looked glitchy.  I kind of hope there is like a singleplayer mode to just play and learn the game without the worry of other players trying to kill you.  Along the lines of that it would be interesting to be able to just play with friends, but either way I'm interested in seeing how this turns out.  Better than that rip-off scam called WarZ (Honestly you could have at least made the name different)

Looks good so far, glad to see they're really treating this game right.

How about a version that people can play alone or only with a few friends, because I got soo tired of getting killed more by other people playing the game than the zombies. I played this for alittle over a month and the was months ago which I stopped playing because of fustration.

want to see the gun play and the zombie movement animations. Thats what sucks the most on mod version

Ledah

Looks exactly like ArmA all over again. There's a lot of weird animations too, I suppose some of Bohemia helping with this project made it look exactly like ArmA. It's an alpha so I suppose it's not that much of a deal.

Looks good, but honestly can't be bothered with this game.

Not my sort of thing.

Nice to see he wasn't too put off by WarZ and Sergey "I take your money yes?" Titov.

So which was the bad one? This or WarZ?

JediLegacy

It looks fantastic in alpha. Much quicker animations (hated getting shot by someone just because my guy was still performing an animation 3 seconds after mashing the key), smoother, and it looks like they've poured a lot of new ideas into the game. I'm excited.

And to all haters of DayZ, don't watch this video. There's no massive changes to the game that will make you want to play, not to be seen at least. Go play whatever game takes your fancy and leave us alone.

When will this game hit consoles? Next-gen?

@Crabjock so you really think that on a zombie apocalypse people will ask you if you are friendly first and then shoot? if you want a real adventure I invite you to form a group with your friends and survive on your own, thats the beauty of this game.

dalua360
dalua360

@Crabjock I have a solution, but it's not a good one.... Put a long delay on respawn so the players will be forced to not die so often ! If I was a troll and I knew that I would have to wait 3 days to respawn again, I would be more careful and that would make the game more focused on survival, imo....

Micooliscool
Micooliscool

@genjuroT i believe they are going to make it that zombies spawn at the start of the server, not just when a player enters a certain vicinity

dalua360

@tommygun6644 Maybe, if Day Z was based on Arma 3, that could be more interesting! I know that Bohemia developed Arma 1 and then provided a military version to the Armed Forces to be used as virtual training, which indicates that this engine simulates military actions a lot better than any COD or BF game, but as we are talking about survival, I think some features from those popular video games would turn Day Z into a better game! Put the responsiveness of the COD gameplay together with the environment destruction of the BF games, plus the environment interactions found on Far Cry and Crysis and BAM, we have a GOTY !

Rocket2Uranus
Rocket2Uranus

@tommygun6644 LOL.  You have no idea what you are talking about. This is an updated version of their Arma 2 Engine (2009) which was not bad at the time.  The size of the maps are 10x of a normal BF3 map.  I would even go far as saying the Arma  2 Maps are 20x the size of a BF3 map.

I doubt many people own computers that could handle BF3 graphics in an Arma 2 Map.  I mean unless you are playing Arma3.  Arma 3 Looks nice.

You really sound like you never played DayZ Mod because it looks so ugly.  I feel bad for you.

@BuBsay

NO. This isn't as realistic as the "TRUE GAMER'S WHO PLAY DAYZ" think it is, Sniper for example is piss patheticly easy, just ajust the range and you don't even have to be on target, you can be mills out and it still land's the shot... don't misstake addiction to great gameplay, same with wow player's, they just don't see how repetatively bollock's it is because there looking through a mist of addiction.

BuBsay
BuBsay

@Colekern You could also just use the action buttons using the center mouse button... You never have to go into your inventory.

flammable_zeus
flammable_zeus

@Dinostrich You could always try befriending other players instead of thinking of them all as enemies (although many of them probably will be.) I like how the voice chat works in the area that your character is in. Really gives you more of a chance of making allies.

Dirty_Window

@ghstbstr That's the game though. It'd be like asking for a driving game with a tracktor... because you don't like speed.

@Ledah   I've always felt that for DayZ to really reach its potential, it needs to be free of the ArmA2 engine, for a number of reasons.  The ideas are cool although if we're being honest most of it is not original, it's nothing that other people haven't at least wanted to do, but they deserve some credit for doing it first I guess.  I think the real key thing that DayZ brought was the multiplayer without a net so to speak, sort of a social experiment in that anyone can decide at anytime to be friend or foe.

@Fantomass Hence why War Z should have protected their name and ip, because that confusion will never stop.

@Baroni88 As of right now, it won't. PC exclusive. However if it sells well a sequel or standalone may come out on next-gen consoles.

wezkilla

@Baroni88 im actually surprised anyone thinks with would ever come to consoles, umm more than likely next next-gen

Crabjock
Crabjock

@eddyrc7 @Crabjock Actually, yes. I don't think it would be like a movie, game, or The WD. You can't expect to live civilized all your life, and then switch to killing machine. If were talking realistic here, I think most people would just be in shock all the way to the point of being eaten. Nobody would admit that, but it's pretty much the truth. Problems in life like arguing abut what gaming console is better, straight to being chased by zombies and seeing dead bodies everywhere. That's not an easy transition.

I know a lot of people would shoot on sight. But I do believe most people wouldn't. But really, there is no way of knowing how the majority would react to a problem like that unless it happened. We all want to believe we would be badass, but that's just talk, and most people just look at the exciting side of it, not the starving, dark, no sleeping side of it.

Philosophical gibberish aside, It's not really about what we would do realistically. It's a game. If you say most people would do that, then okay. I just see it as an opportunity to make it more than just another fps deathmatch. And most of all, the hackers were my main concern. And you can't tell me most people would hack in a real Z.A. Anyway, My point is that there needs to be a balance. And there won't be. The beauty of the game is subjective. I'm sure a lot of people will love it for what it is. But I'm after a more strategic subtle approach. Hell, maybe I'll be able to find a server that fits my tastes. Who knows.

Rocket2Uranus
Rocket2Uranus

@Micooliscool @genjuroT  they also plan on making loot spawn at server start as well. so u no longer drive into town to find no loot and no zombies.  they also mentioned loot respawning on server when ever without the need of server restart.

some even mention that, if the server doesn't restart, you can even wipe out ALL of the zombies on the server.  :P  that's just all up in the air, but i like the idea of being able to kill all zombies in a town and building up a fortress.

private hive servers are gonna be awesome.

Colekern
Colekern

@BuBsay @Colekern I know, but that normally plays a ridiculously long animation. With this there is no animation.

Rocket2Uranus

@flammable_zeus @Dinostrich lol. i  don't "befriend" anyone unless they do something nice for me first.  i never go out of my way to be nice to players unless they have done something for me in the past.  never EVER go help out a noobie.  he'll just shoot u in the balls and take ur can o beans.

MW2ismygame
MW2ismygame

@flammable_zeus @Dinostrich HAAHAHAHAHAH, I guess you get your beans taken quite often. Currently there are no "friends" on dayz. Either a shot to scare or a shot kill. No other kind of interaction. And i would not have it any other way !

Gonefishing95
Gonefishing95

@Crabjock @eddyrc7 I'd love to join a more role play kind of server, where a large amount of people will talk, maybe trade, maybe hold another one up and steal their stuff instead of just shooting on sight :) I mean it would be really cool if two players met and traded then one was jumped by a bandit and steals his stuff

Why do dayz player's tell themselve that this game is for true gamer's and anyone who doesn't like or get's bored of it is just another cod or bf fan boy. really pathetic way of making sence of why people see it for the massive flaw's that it is and others are so addicted to it they tell themselve's that it's great... muppet.

Gonefishing95

@Dinostrich @Colekern DayZ standalone needs to adopt a lot of ACE elements to it, such as the whisper/shout bar (Obvious what it is) and the energy etc.

@MW2ismygame @flammable_zeus @Dinostrich  I'm not sure what servers you're playing on, but that's not true at all, especially considering a random guy picked me and a couple of others up in his van the other day.
