Dawnguard, Hearthfire Skyrim DLC for PS3 on hold

Bethesda not returning to work on earlier expansions until Dragonborn development is finished.

PlayStation 3 gamers awaiting the arrival of the Dawnguard and Hearthfire expansions for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim may want to get comfortable. Bethesda said in a blog post recently that it will not return to work on those expansions until development on Dragonborn for the PS3 is finished.

"On PS3 in particular, we turned our attention to Dragonborn, as we thought it was the best content to release first, and we didn't want folks to wait longer," the company said. "Once it's ready to go for everyone, we'll continue our previous work on Hearthfire and Dawnguard for PS3.

"Each one takes a lot of time and attention to work well in all circumstances and all combinations of DLC. Once we have a better idea of release timing and pricing, we'll let you know."

The Dragonborn expansion for Skyrim launched this week for the Xbox 360 at $20. It is due out for the PS3 and PC sometime in early 2013. For more on the content, check out GameSpot's Now Playing feature below.

My wife and I enjoy most of Bethesda games. But, waiting a whole F*$^ING Year is a whole lot of ridiculous. I think as a apology for this they should give both Hearthfire and dawnguard for like 10 bucks. Regardless, They will still make a profit off of the patience of the PS3 populace. Shame we had to suffer so Microsoft can pay out more money.

What I don't understand is why they lie. We all know there using 80%+ of there workers to make Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 4 and there other shitty titles like brink 2 or something. OK we understand its hard to fix but at least tell us whats going on and i think that when the next Bethesda games comes out they shouldn't give it out to Xbox first just to show respect to PS3 players who have to wait.

Man I can't wait! Come on Bethesda at least they'll get shitloads of money when they release it!

Well then **** you Bethesda! I'm tired of waiting.

*yawn* Lost interest months ago. If I do bother with it at some point, I'll be buying a used copy of the GotY Edition. The PS3 has existed for 7 years now, going on 8 and Bethesda still hasn't gotten their shit together. How many broken games have they released on it now? I count four so far, and those are just the ones I've played.

It's about time!  Finally!  I'm very excited to finally play these.  And to think I almost bought the 360 version just to get these downloads.  I'm glad I waited.

Bethesda should drop the price for these expansions or at least bundle the two together for a low price of say $25, one year is too long.

i agree that the whole dawnguard and hearthfire fiasco was indeed terrible on bethesdas part, but i don't dwell on the past and have patience.so if bethesda are going to focus their attention on NEW DLC then that is perfectly okay with me.

This whole mess has been the reason I can't even bring myself to go back and finish Skyrim. Bethesda seriously dropped the ball with the PS3.

Honestly i think this is just bull shit, i work in the gaming industry and i know that if Bethesda gave a crap we would have received the dlc a long time ago... it has now been over a year since the original release. This smells like Microsoft trying to piss PS3 players off. I own every console and i still refuse to pay for xbox games that are available on ps3 and nothings going to change that.

Never will i purchase a bethesda game again

OMG, this is tragic! In retrospect, I'm glad I stayed with the X360 and didn't switch to PS3 when it was (finally) released. I do have a PS3, but I'm only using it for exclusives, like Uncharted, Infamous, etc.

They also need to fix the game so that I can get some relations going with a fellow Khajiit.  No offence to you people, but your women are lame, plus the orc women are hideous, and the elves are just weird.  My marriage feels like a sham, I guess that's why I'm never home.

Dragonborn looks awesome and I admit I'm likely going to break my word never to support Bethesda again, but it's still BS they haven't gotten the other two out. That being said, I hope it isn't a buggy mess on PS3.

Ok, well I won't get my hopes up too high. Made that mistake before. It's all good though, there are plenty of other games to play. Would be nice to have a reason to play Skyrim some more though.

C'mon people.  just one DLC at least.  Something to carry me over at these high levels.  *sigh* dragon pimpin' ain't easy.

After playing all three the only one that matters is Dragonborn. The only good thing about Dawnguard was the dragon weapons and a few sets of armor. Which was way over priced but Dragonborn was worth every penny. So if I were in your shoes I would want them to get Dragonborn done as soon as possible and not even worry about the other two DLCs at the moment.

People, dont blame Bethesda.

Instead blame all of the mainstream gamers out there handing millions of dollors to devs and publishers for games like COD and other simpleton/lame games.

Bethesda did not have the luxury of using a current game engine and system for a game like Skyrim. This is why bethesda had to build the ENTIRE game from ground up because no one else (dev/pub) is making great games like Bethesda.

THIS...means that there is GOING to be a huge number of problems with the game. If comes with the territory. PS3 is hard to develop for and is even more so for a game like Skyrim...you knew the risks before you got a PS3.

Jake518

Well my fellow PS3 owners, just think of it as this way: At least we'll be getting an exclusive DLC (or get one before the others do) on Far Cry 3. And to top it off... Ubisoft was able to get it done! lol

I will not buy a PS4 if I'm going to be stuck with crappy versions of Bethesda's games.

I already have Skyrim on my 360, but have been patiently waiting to buy the GOTY Edition on PS3. Looks like the wait will be a little longer. Still, after buying the  Witcher 2(which is awesome), I have no intention of buying any more 360 games. On the plus side, I will have likely forgotten most of what I did my first 150 hour playthrough of Skyrim. So by the time a GOTY version comes out it'll be like a whole new game, plus all new add-ons. Sucks that it's taking so long though.

Bethesda: We turned our attention to Dragonborn!! So they can get Dragonborn to run properly but not the other 2 Expansions. Yeah like people are going believe this!!

bmart970

Well, maybe it's best to not complain. I have an Xbox 360, and I got Dawnguard, and it was sub par. Hearthfire was only a house add on, so it was fine but not extraordinary. I would be happy that they are going to focus on this DLC which seems more substantial.

S001_PRIMAL

ironic how several years ago Bethesda  was criticizing valve about the same issue, alienating the ps3 version of the orange box. today on the other hand, valve fully supports the ps3 giving features such as steam on psn, features they didn't even give xbox. i personally prefer owning any Bethesda game on xbox, but they really should get a grip and treat ps gamers with some respect at least.

I don't get what's so hard about putting the DLC on PS3. It's just a copy and paste from the Xbox. I feel sorry for the PS3 users.

Christ, give PS3 users a break already and just tell them you don't want it released on that platform.

"...we didnt want folks to wait even longer."

So basically what Bethesda is saying is that PS3 users will have to wait even longer. I doubt they put serious work into fixing the problem and just gave up until after Dragonborn is released.  And that is even if Dragonborn works for the PS3.

They knew what the PS3 was capable of well before programming for Skyrim.

What you people FAIL to relize is the the PS3 is Opensource and much like linux and MAC they don't have devloper's to make games for Open OS's.

Can you imagine if they'd had a season pass thing where you buy all these expansions before they even come out?

Oh, but that would be some internet rage right there.

This is what happen people. It's the us(pc gamers) fault. Beth has been a lazy ass game developer since the start. They release something that could be great and our community(pc) would fix there screw ups til it was great. Sadly you console gamers can't fix their laziness. Sorry.

i dont get it... arent they all built on the same engine? if they can release one DLC why are they having problem with the rest of the DLC

Maui_Lion

We don't want folks to wait longer, so we'll delay what's already being worked on with older expansions and just go straight to a newer expansion which won't be released until the turning of the calender year.

Wait, you don't want us to wait, so you..make us wait even longer.

And stop process on what you were working on, which by the way, -shouldn't be taking this long-, and then push it aside to go to another DLC that will just end up taking longer since you hadn't even been working on it so heavily in the first place.

Irony, thy name is Bethesda.

By the way, the whole 'it's the best content to release' bit?  It makes them sound like uppity artists.  Towards your company, the best content to release is CONTENT.  PERIOD.  When your PS3 owners are begging for an expansion, any expansion, by this point, don't say 'well you can't have these yet because this one is -better-', just freakin' work on what you were working on and give them -something-.

xMoonDevilx
xMoonDevilx

You got all the time in the World now Bethesda...when, or more appropriately 'IF', the DLC comes out for PS3... no one but a handful will be around to buy it anyway. The only positive I have seen coming out of this lengthy diatribe of excuses (and now possibly even incompetence) by Bethesda....is that Gamers on different platforms, usually in stupid fanboy wars, have come together almost banding together as one true entity.... The Gamers, being able to completely understand, empathize and sympathize putting all other nonsense aside. Shows just how big a community can be, and how Developers will suffer in the end....not us Gamers. Too easy to move on to other awesome games.

TheArcade
TheArcade

This is stupid. Why even release this report detering PS3 owners further. They already know Bethesda is working on the content ironing out the bugs. So why keep releasing apologetic reports? They should just hold off on making press releases and only tell the news when both pecies of DLC are COMPLETE. By releasing such statements all they're doing is making PS3 fans mad.

You're impressive when you pay your bills on time, when you're late you aren't. I don't want to have to look at this DLC when PS4 come out. It should be before and not after.

jcopp72
jcopp72

and then when they see the low sales because of people not wanting to buy it untill all of it is out, they wont return to work on the them at all.

tonitorsi
tonitorsi

What a nonsensical and stupid move to pull off.

Considering half their revenues came from the PS3 versions they (shockingly) managed to release to the public, this is just pure stupidity.

First they release a complete broken game for PS3 users, then they delay the DLC for it and they'll get to it "whenever they feel like it"

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SUPPORTING THESE ASSES?

Solace427
Solace427

OK, now I feel really bad for PS3 users. This is now just cheating dedicated players of what they expected to come out awhile ago. What makes no sense is how they did not encounter issues with the initial game and PS3 compatibility but the DLC is giving so much trouble.

I don't know the details behind it but I do think they could have prevented this to an extent or in someway.

Mrod1212

It was certainly fun, but investing over 100 hours into it and getting the plat along the way; I really have no desire to pick this up again.
