Earlier this week, the NPD Group named THQ and Relic Entertainment's Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II as its top-selling PC title in the US for the week of February 15-February 21. As it turn outs, Dawn of War II's success extends well beyond US shores.

THQ today touted Dawn of War II as the top-selling PC title during its debut week in nearly all major Western markets, including the US, UK, Europe, and Australasia. The publisher notes that its sales data was provided by ELSPA/GfK Chart-Track and GfK, as well as the aforementioned NPD Group. THQ has yet to reveal specific sell-in or sell-through numbers.

More than just an early-sales success, Dawn of War II has also enjoyed a strong critical reception. The game's single-player campaign mode resembles more of an action role-playing game, dropping players into the heavily armored spaulders of a Space Marine commander as he leads his band against hordes of Orks, Eldar, and Tyranid. Dawn of War II also features online multiplayer battles for up to six across a number of modes.
