To mark the announcement of Dawn of War 3, Sega released an impressive CG trailer depicting the ongoing war between the Orks, Space Marines, and Eldar. Relic Entertainment has said the game is the "Dawn of War that fans have been waiting for."

"Our biggest units ever? Check. Giant orbital lasers? Check. Base-building, epic heroes, huge battles, it's all in there. Get ready for the biggest Dawn of War yet," said executive producer Stephen MacDonald.

Dawn of War 3 is expected for release on PC. Plans for a release on additional platforms and a launch date were not specified.

Sega registered domains for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3 in July 2015. Then, on May 2, 2016, it teased a new entry.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 was released in 2009. The 2004 original and the sequel were developed by Company of Heroes studio Relic Entertainment, which was sold to Sega for $26.6 million as part of the THQ bankruptcy. This is the first entry in the series Relic has developed as a studio wholly owned by Sega.
