David Fincher's Netflix Movie Mank Gets First Trailer

David Fincher (Seven, The Social Network) is one modern cinema's most acclaimed directors, and was one of the first filmmakers that Netflix brought on board when it started developing its own shows. He directed and produced House of Cards and Mindhunter and is now set to release his first movie for the streaming giant. The film is titled Mank, and the first trailer has been released.

The movie is set in Hollywood in the 1930s. It focuses on the real-life figure Herman J. Mankiewicz, the co-writer of the classic movie Citizen Kane, and charts both his own struggles and those with Kane director Orson Welles. Mank stars Gary Oldman as Mankiewicz, and it's shot entirely in black and white. Check the trailer out below:

Mank co-stars Amanda Seyfried as actress Marion Davies, Charles Dance as William Randolph Hearst, the newspaper mogul that Citizen Kane was based on, and Tom Burke as Welles. The cast also includes Lily Collins, Sam Troughton, and Tuppence Middleton.

The movie is something of a personal passion project for Fincher. The screenplay was written by his late father, journalist Jack Fincher, in the 1990s. Fincher planned to make it in the late '90s after his 1997 thriller The Game, but his insistence on shooting in black and white meant he was unable to interest a studio in the project. Over 20 years later, Netflix has produced the movie, and it releases on December 4.
