David Bowie, who has played a role in Twin Peaks in the past, was set to be in the upcoming revival, though his untimely passing now means that won't happen.

News of Bowie's involvement was shared by Harry Goaz in an interview with the Dallas Morning News. Goaz, who is returning for Season 3 to reprise his role as Andy Brennan (the dopey sheriff's deputy), said the plan was for Bowie to make a cameo at some point during the new season. He unfortunately didn't get to film his part, however, before passing away earlier this year.

Bowie played a part in the 1992 prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. He appears as a missing FBI agent who suddenly shows up in a scene that can safely be described as one of the strangest in the entire series--and that's saying something.

Even with Bowie's absence, the upcoming season of Twin Peaks--the first since the series went off the air in 1991--features a huge cast list. Despite her death last year, the actress who played the Log Lady in the original series will make an appearance.

Season 3 is set to premiere on Showtime in early 2017.

Full disclosure: Showtime is owned by GameSpot parent company CBS.
