Texas-based developer Palestar has announced another free trial for DarkSpace, its online space simulation. The trial will begin July 15 and run through July 22. During the free trial, all DarkSpace account holders will be able to join all available game servers, play with no limitations, and gain prestige and rank.

"This free trial is a great opportunity for new players, or those who have tried DarkSpace in the past, to check out all the new features and fixes we've added over the last few months," said Richard Lyle, president and lead programmer for Palestar. The free trial is intended to let players see the changes made in the recently released version 1.476 upgrade, which added several new features and fixes to the game.

DarkSpace was launched in December 2001 by Playnet. The game is set in a sci-fi universe filled with warring factions. Players begin the game in one of three main factions as an ensign flying a small spacecraft, and they can eventually work their way up the ranks to a grand admiral in charge of a huge capital ship. For more information, take a look at our full review of the game and visit the official DarkSpace Web site, which features a free downloadable version of the game.
