Darksiders novel, world bible on the way

Random House publishing prequel novel Darksiders: The Abomination Vault this May; comprehensive lore guide also inbound.

Gamers eager to immerse themselves in written Darksiders lore before the launch of Darksiders II this summer will have two new pieces of work to peruse: a novel and a world bible.

This is a story about Death, and also death.

Darksiders: The Abomination Vault, due in May, is an all-new piece of Darksiders fiction, set millennia before the events of the first game in the series. It follows the pursuits of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse and documents their efforts to curb a plot to destroy the universe.

The novel was written by Ari Marmell, who penned novels set in the Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons universes. It will be published by Del Rey, a division of Random House.

A Darksiders world bible was also announced today, but the publisher did not offer further information about it. Typically, a world bible is a comprehensive guide that offers information about items and inhabitants of a particular universe.

As for the latest Darksiders game, Darksiders II is due out on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this summer. For more on that title, check out GameSpot's latest preview.

First game was great. Can't wait for the second. But what about improvement of the crappy combo system? Bigger combos got you more souls, more souls more money, magic and health. The first game's combo system was a knock off the of GoW except it had very little time between hits and finishing moves eliminated your combo completely. GoW on the other hand has one of the best combo systems where finishing moves add to the combo and if you got hit and continued slashing your enemy right after your combo would continue. Darksider's combo system needs to be improved.

I read it as "Word Bible" at first... Whatever that would be. Anyway, seems interesting.

At first, I thought "world bible" might've meant something else, in the context of the Darksiders universe...

Hell yeah. Loved the lore of the original and the prospect of a properly penned book intrigues me.

Definitely getting these. It's rare nowadays for a studio to make a universe with such interesting lore....
