Dark Souls developer From Software has confirmed it's making a new Armored Core title, while the Japanese studio has also teased a "weird" game that likely isn't a new Dark Souls.

Confirming rumors, From Software boss Hidetaka Miyazaki said in a roundtable interview attended by Kotaku, "We are making a new Armored Core. We are still in the early stages of development." Pressed for further details on what he meant by "early," Miyazaki said, "I can't talk about how early it is."

The latest entry in the mech-focused Armored Core series for consoles was 2013's Armored Core: Verdict Day, which was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

In addition to the new, untitled Armored Core game, From Software is working on a project that Miyazaki described as "a little weird." When asked if he meant the game is weird or if it's weird based on what From Software made before, Miyazaki answered that the game's genre is what's weird.

"When I say 'weird,' the genre might be a little weird," he explained. "The game is weird. But we are diligently making it in all seriousness, so I just want people to know that when they think it's strange."

Also in the interview, Miyazaki repeated what he said before about continuing the Dark Souls franchise. While Dark Souls III is the last game in the series he plans to work on, the esteemed designer said he's open to other people working on new entries in the franchise.

"For me, Dark Souls III is the end," he said. "But that doesn't mean the end for Dark Souls. If someone other than myself, like another staff member, wants to make a Dark Souls, then I don't want to deny others from making future installments."

He went on to say that he's backing away from the Dark Souls franchise because he thinks there is nothing more he can add to it.

In an August 2015 interview, Miyazaki said Dark Souls was his "life's work" and that April's Dark Souls III represented a turning point for the franchise.

Dark Souls III expands in October with the release of the Ashes of Ariandel DLC for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC; a new trailer was released today and can be seen here.
