Dark Souls 2 PC release date is May 31 according to Amazon

Amazon has listed a release date for the PC version, but there's reason to suspect it's inaccurate.

by

The PC version of Dark Souls 2 has appeared on Amazon with a May 31, 2014 release date.

The PC version on sale for $60 is an online game code that requires a Steam client to download and activate.

The Amazon page correctly lists a March 11 release date for the Xbox 360 version of Dark Souls 2, but no release date for the PlayStation 3 version, which is set to release on the same day.

It's entirely possible that the May 31 release date is inaccurate. Big publishers don't usually release high profile games on a weekends (May 31 falls on a Saturday), except for Nintendo, which has a habit of publishing games on Sundays. That the release date falls on the last day of the month is also suspicious. It's a date retailers sometimes choose when they have an idea around what time a game will be released, but not an exact date.

Previously, developer From Software said that the PC version will release shortly after the game launches on consoles.

Last year, From Software also admitted that the PC version of Dark Souls was "half-assed," and promised the studio won't make the same mistakes twice with the PC version of the upcoming sequel.

Having the Ps4 and an even powerful PC, i will get this game for PC to play it with best graphics possible.

I got my ps3 collecting dust since i got the ps4, so i wont get it for the older console.

PC this time i guess

I will wait for the PC Version, Dark Souls on PS3 was pretty bad and i wont have much fun to play a great game on such an old system when i can enjoy it on a much more modern PC.

good loading times and fps makes a game just much more fun to play, it will look much better to - really bad it will take more time but i wont spend money for any console version.

If this is true it will suck. My reason is that I'm now in my final year at school and was hoping to enjoy the game during the holidays (March).

Whatever the date, this game needs to reach as many people as possible(with the exception of smartphones and the like).

When is Gamespot going to realize that many Amazon release dates are placeholders and stop senseless reports like this one.  Besides it's not even a new development.  I noticed it a couple of weeks ago.  Stop the click-bait please.

I dont care !!! i will not buy this until it reaches 17$ on steam !!!

A two month PC delay is pointless. The vast majority of Dark Souls players will already have played it on their 25fps, sub HD, consoles. May as well cancel it.

May 31? What a shame and an insult to PC gamers. Not buying this twice. File sharing site it is for me then. True HD 60fps, greatness will have to wait.

I hope this one is available in my region because Steam (or the publisher) region-locked Dark Souls 1.

This is the first game in the series that I will get for PC. Currently playing Dark Souls on Xbox 360 I came to a conclusion that the game would look so much better with higher-res textures and some cool graphic effects. 60 fps would be also awesome. Is it worth getting Prepare to Die edition once you have Xbox 360 version and can you import your save somehow?

Damn them, I'm going to end up buying this twice again, aren't I? Ah well, I'd prefer to by DSII twice than most other games once, if I'm honest.

Stick of Truth will have to do in the meantime... I mean after you finish Might and Magic X :)

Gamestop States April, 31 I just don't think they know, because it hasn't been announced. Hang in there.

Great way to treat pc gamers. Dark Souls 1 sucks on pc btw. Because the freaking port is horrible. Dark Souls 2 will suck more on pc because it is ported as usual. Time to boycott this stupid game.

gamefreak215jd

Dark Souls PC had many problems. The game was clocked at 30fps,the graphics were PS3-ish,controls were horrible and the list goes on.But I guess the folks who started the petition had it coming.Hope that DS2 will be a better port.

I hope it's not released so late, if not as a proud owner of a "next-gen" console, I will have to just look at the walls instead of playing anything.

For those getting this on PC in the US, the UK site has the physical copy for $50. I guess the only negative is shipping wont be day one. Not really a big deal for me because I will be playing FFX HD while I wait

This is actually good news to me. I still haven't finished my first play through of Dark Souls 1 yet, so this gives me some time :)

Great.  Now when's the next gen port coming?  Can't be hard if they're doing a PC version.

Good , gives them time to polish up, we all remembered what happened last time, this is not a bad thing & should turn out good as the PC was the lead platform this time.

Either way, playing demon's souls at the minute so i doubt ill notice a very small gap in release anyways.

@Garm31 Dark Souls is the one game I like in 720p over 1080p.  Murky fuzzy graphics give the world a surreal atmosphere that seems to fit better than a realistic rendering.  No joke.  Kind of like the stylized approach Disney took with the original Sleeping Beauty.

C_A_G_E

@Garm31  Did they re-release of the last game fail on PC? IF that sold then they have data saying the release 2 months later is not pointless.

MrAVKV
MrAVKV

@Garm31  Your logic is ridiculous. You do know that there are many PC gamers who do not have consoles right? People who do not have consoles but only a gaming PC will buy the game on their PC.

@Garm31  Do not speak for all of us. I do not see this as an insult and it isn't uncommon practice.

MrFacepunch

@Garm31  So you're going to steal from a company because they didn't release their game on the date you wanted them to? If that's all the excuse you need then I think you would have stolen it anyway.

@Karmazyn  I picked up the PC version, even though I already owned a copy on the 360. No regrets, a couple of mods and it is much better looking than on the consoles. It also runs a lot smoother (hardware dependent of course), Blighttown is far less annoying and much quicker when you aren't playing in slow motion.

Plus, its often on sale on steam for under 10 bucks...more than worth it for anybody who has yet to play it, and still worth it for those who have...

There is no better way to support the developers we like and punish the ones who shit on us than with our wallets.

informalmrtom

@Karmazyn  it's definitely better for PC (after some extensive modding, because it's a terrible port) you can't transfer your save but this allows you to play through one of the best game ever made again! Praise the sun! **also only play it of you have a controller, the keyboard controls suck**

informalmrtom
informalmrtom

@Xatsuna  apparently they aren't doing a direct port of Dark Souls 2. They apologised for the dreadful Dark Souls 1 port and 'promised' that Dark Souls 2 would be much better on PC... but we'll have to just wait and see.

Oh and I forgot the game also maybe region locked so will have to make sure it is not before release day

@DaRq_MiNoS They've said they have no plans for a next-gen port. That could change down the road, mind you, but I wouldn't hold my breath for the time being.

@C_A_G_E

The vast majority of players will have played this game to death (no pun intended) by the time the PC release comes. This delay will not prevent or curb piracy. A moronic reason that will hurt sales.

pc_game_r

I own a Xbox One yet I willing to wait for a better experience PC, in my humble opinion.

Xevac

@MrFacepunch @Garm31  This is the bigest problem with piracy tho, most people will not pirat games if the are available right from the start, now hardcore fans will buy it on console and download it for pc, making PC look very bad. My self will wait for PC because the lineup for games in march is allready insane, And i will also never buy a game for the old consoles ever again...

Some piracy will NEVER stop, but if they let people get to it the minute it is released, it will dampen it alot, Im sure the popularity of steam and ability to pre download games for release day, have droped the piracy numbers drasticly!

DaRq_MiNoS
DaRq_MiNoS

@c_rakestraw @DaRq_MiNoS Love this series and this is the only game that makes me regret trading in my PS3 for my PS4.  If the game gets the same good reviews, I'll have to start a petition or something lol.  I can't imagine they can overlook the potential sales over the next 6-8 years on the next gen consoles, after all the work they put into the game.

c_rakestraw

@beuneus12 @SteamyPotatoes They said as much not long after the game was announced. It's so they could ensure the PC version wouldn't be a mess like Dark Souls was.

MrAVKV

@lindallison @C_A_G_E @Garm31  Exactly. Garma doesn't seem to understand that though. He forgets that people who do not have consoles and only a gaming PC will in fact play the game on their PCs.

@C_A_G_E @Garm31

Bought the original on PC because.....I don't have any consoles.  Will also buy DSII on PC because.....I don't have any consoles.  I can't be the only one.

C_A_G_E

@Garm31  My Question still stands and provides the answer one way or another. Did the last release that was 1 year after the console release sell? If it did then there is your answer. If it did not then you point holds more weight.

Garm31
Garm31

I want this game on the PC. I want to experience it first time, in true HD 60fps. This delay will just make me go to a file sharing site for the Xbox 360 release. I will not be purchasing it twice.

Also after a two month delay, I may not even consider buying the PC version. You see? Piracy works both ways. Pity!, cause if this was coming to PC at launch it would be preordered right now.
