Codemasters has today released new information on American Idol for the PlayStation 2 and PC. The game, which is inspired by the reality TV show of the same name and is known as Pop Idol in Europe, will feature a previously unannounced party competition mode of play and will also support dance-mat peripherals like those used to play Konami's Dance Dance Revolution series.

The newly announced party competition mode will allow up to four players to compete in a special sing-off showdown. At the end of each player's performance in this mode, he or she will be awarded points by both the game's judges and the other players via secret button presses. Other modes of play we've covered previously include duet, singing practice, jukebox, karaoke, and the main American Idol competition.
