Dan Arey up at Dawn

Former Naughty Dog creative director jumps ship and joins Ready at Dawn to work on undisclosed "new IP."

The creative mind behind the Jak & Daxter franchise, as well as recent PlayStation 3 title Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, has quit his post as creative director at Sony's Naughty Dog studio to work in the same role for Ready at Dawn.

Dan Arey will be working with Ru Weerasuriya, Ready at Dawn's cofounder and vice president of creative development (and former senior software engineer for Blizzard), on the company's first original IP, details of which it will reveal "at a later date."

Ready at Dawn was founded in 2003, and cofounders of the studio include former Naughty Dog senior programmer Didier Malenfant and former Blizzard senior software engineer Andrea Pessino. The studio worked on the PlayStation Portable game Daxter, and is currently "putting the finishing touches" to the PSP title God of War: Chains of Olympus.

Dan Arey is a legend. Created lots of the story for Jak and Daxter and Crash B. I'm looking forward to whatever he does next.

IP does mean Intellectual Property. When companies start working on a new IP that means it isn't in an existing series. So no Daxter 2. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's very unlikely you'll ever see a daxter 2 because there is very little room in the J&D story line. These guys are without a doubt the best PSP developer out there. But don't be surprised if this ends up being a PS3 title. I think they want to do something big. They'll probably never make any 360 game because Sony has produced all their previous games and they have a very good relation ship with that company, not to mention they're making bank off of Sony's existing IP's why burn that bridge?

raziellich, while Arey might be working at Ready at Dawn, given the closeness that RAD and ND share, I don't think it will be that big of an impact.

Apparently I missed something, but what does IP stand for exactly? (intellectual property?) All of a sudden I see this abbreviation everywhere...

Well good luck to him is all I can say, if he wanted to go elsewhere he couldn't have made a much better choice, RAD is awesome. It was founded by former members of Naughty Dog and Blizzard and if definitely shows. After all, as far as the PSP goes they are definitely the best developer out there (IMO).

If they continute to do work for the psp, this is a fantastic turn for the handheld. Shame that the Uncharted series is losing such a key guy already
