Curt Schilling enters EverQuest

Boston Red Sox pitcher to appear as a loot-dropping virtual bad guy for three days in June.

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that Curt Schilling will appear as a bad guy in EverQuest II during June 5, 6, and 7. The baseball star will exist in the virtual online world as an epic, loot-dropping virtual baddie who will battle players who cross his path. Anyone can register and sign up to battle Schilling online, while the event coincides with the three days of the Yankees versus Red Sox baseball series.

The event is taking place to support the ALS association, with $5 (£3) being donated every time a player defeats the virtual Schilling. Players can also type '/ALS' during the game to make donations to the foundation that assists sufferers of Lou Gehrig's disease, named after the legendary baseball player. Schilling's son will be the first person to battle his virtual dad on June 5.

stuff like this has been hapenning for ages, i mean celebs in games is nothing new, but it's still damn cool and for a worthy cause too!, hell i don't see WOW offering anything to charity, probably because Blizzard are too busy counting their subscription money and banning players for having 'too much fun' to be bothered with things like that

The 'Advanced Squad Leader' community would also like him back as well. After all, he does own Multiman Publishing, the publisher to that WWII based boardgame. Oops, did I say boardgame on Gamespot?

Wow, that's......interesting. Well, I might just sign up to Everquest to kill Curt Schilling. I'm a Yankee fan. BTW, the Yankees won the series 2 games to 1. =) Glad to see Sony is raising money for Lou Gehrig's disease. Very new and interesting concept.

He's been a fan of EQ for a long time. I remember him doing a review in PC Gamer a few years back for an expansion for EQ1 (don`t remember which one though). I think he also did an editorial in that magazine too about how he loves EQ.

For a good cause so I guess it's ok.

WoW killer? LOL, yeah...right ;). As has been pointed out, this makes sense given how big a fan he is of EQ. Arod? Dunno, does Arod have a blatently public record showing how much a fan of the game he is? :P Doubt it.

Can you say "WoW killer"? Finally, the edge EQII needs to topple the giant. Once we get more real-life people in there -- a raving Tom Cruise shooting death rays from his alien second head while screaming "I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!", Dick Cheney in hunter's garb picking off players with his shotgun, maybe Tiger Woods offering access to the clubhouse (replete with Tiger branded armor and weapons) if you can beat his score... EQII will finally be teh awesome.

I hope this doesn't start some sort of trend

Cool! Great way for Schilling to give back to his fans and raise money for a good cause.

Is this the evolution of the celebrity Dunk Tank? :->

Couldn't it be Arod instead? Curt's a good guy, not a bad guy! Though it's for a good cause... Maybe I can stomach it...

Huh, I had no idea Curt was an Evercrack fan.

This isn't suprising, considering that Schilling is a die-hard EQ fan. I remember him writing reviews for some of the the EQ add-ons for PC Gamer.

If schilling spends less time doing stuff like this he might not have 4 or 5 starts in a row when he gets whiplash from watching all the fluff balls he throws sail over his head and out.

Chappelle as a monster in WoW? Maybe he could reprise his role as Blackzilla from his show!

Shilling is doing a good thing especially this will help donate money to the ALS-Lou Gerigs Disease.

They should put more celebs in the game. And have them control their own characters!

Interesting idea, I knew someone was bound to put it to good use some day.

Wow that's kinda weird. But yeah its for a good cause so I guess its all cool.

Wow, I guess it's for a good cause though. Funny how he likes EQII so much, just hope he wasn't getting paid to say that.

Wow, while for a good cause does anyone else think it's a little hokey? This is gonna pave the way to allow other celebs to hock their wares so to speak. Well Schilling in EQ2 I demand to see Dave Chapelle as a monster in WoW!
