Crysis Warhead detonates next month

First follow-up to Crytek's PC first-person shooter franchise arrives in North America September 16, in Europe September 12.

Electronic Arts and Crytek initiated a final countdown today on the launch of their upcoming PC first-person shooter Crysis Warhead. A stand-alone follow-up to last year's critically acclaimed Crysis, Warhead is set to launch in North America on September 16, preceded by a European release on September 12.

Crysis Warhead puts players into the nanosuit of Sergeant "Psycho" Sykes, who deployed to a different side of the island than the original game's protagonist. Psycho apparently arrived on the island better equipped, given that he will have access to an expanded array of customizable weapons and vehicles. New "Crysis Wars" multiplayer modes have also been added.

Warhead is the first product of Crytek's Budapest studio. It will retail for $29.95, although gamers who preorder the game from the EA Store will receive a $5 discount. For more on Warhead, check back tonight for GameSpot's exclusive Q&A on the game's multiplayer modes.

Seriously, $30? thats a little cheap, but i cant complain, maybe its cause the original crysis caused upgrades to your pc worth 1 grand! This game will be amazing though!

crysis isnt a game its a test to see if your computer has been deemed worthy to operate next-gen games. and if its not it lets u know by frying it!

Amen Pilch_R_eD, PC is one of the best platforms and I think the PC is noticeably ahead of consoles right now. PC gaming is far from dead and I love Crytek cause they love PC gaming!

Crysis was an incredible game, and I hope that Warhead will be that too.

@ ctg867 - The reason Crytek Are making PC only games is because they love the PC, it gives them full creative freedom to make the best posible games that push all the boundries, they cant do that on consoles, this they have stated themselves. And whether the console community is screaming out for a port, current gen consoles cannot handle crysis, not at all. They can use a modified version of Cryengine 2, but the way Crysis is made specifically, Current consoles will not run it. For heavens sake the 360 gets laggy during GTA IV and Mass Effect. Also, whats with this whole Pc gamers not being able to afford things statement. Since when are wealthier people generally console owners. Im not even going to get into that. Anyways, Im not saying I dont think console owners shouldnt get to play it, Im a firm believer that all games should be on as many platforms as possible. On that note, as the console gamer you are, know how I feel, there are myriads of games that if they came out for Pc Id acctually buy them, but they dont, and from people like you I get told to buy a 360 or a PS3, so to you I say, Buy a PC. Grrrr!

Sweet! Already have this pre-ordered. I just hope that EA hasn't butchered it in some way. Still I want Crysis 2 more than Warhead, so bring on that as well!

it is said that the new Crysis will have less requirements than the first one, that means that if you just changed PC only to be able to play this, search at your neighborhood bin asap ;)

I could run the original crysis at 1920 x 1200 with all setting on the ( hacked ) very high mode with no AA. Is this game going to be more graphics intensive than the last 1? Some of the stuff i've been reading suggests it won't be much different from the original.

You know what else is metaphorically detonating? Crytek as a development studio if they don't stop releasing PC exclusive games that few PC gamers can afford to play, and if they can, many just pirate it anyway. The console gaming community is calling for a console port, and would be willing to pay you $60 a piece for each copy, even if it only looked like the current wave of good looking console games, as compared to the "best looking console game ever that pushes the technology farther then it's ever gone before."

@ leper-messiahs i own a super pc. i have crysis. i play it well. i also own all hardcore consoles. i will state it again and again: Crysis is an empty game!!! it got the lucky review score just becoz of benchmark visuals and physics. the story is empty and everything else is generic of FPS. Why would u make a game that many people cant enjoy at max settings??? And yes most people bought it to test the performance of their PC like me.

You will be waiting forever, as they have said no Crysis on console ever, only future IP's. Charlie Fubar : You are proof how dumb people can be, that red ring of death is a biatch eh? Overheating crashing? Yes, that is what happens when dumb people try and use a PC.

CharlieFubar - Not many people realize how sweet the mouse + keyboard control is in PS3 Unreal Tournament 3. I would urge any PS3 people that own the game to try it with mouse and keyboard, see the difference. And anyone active at fansites for PS3 shooters needs to request mouse + keyboard control options, which is so obviously superior. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmjCxwMsE7I

the only thing worse than a console fanboy is a PC fanboy... you'll never even dent their "knowledge"... i mean it takes tons of brainpower to reconfigure your crashing mobo and get new bios, and all of a sudden BAM!!! your drivers need updating and your sli video card is overheating. I hate playing a multiplayer game on my PC and have some stupid thing crash me outta the game. In fact, the only thing PC has going for it is that MS and Sony are too busy being stupid to include this far superior FPS control scheme... my prediction... first console to get a mouse or something simmilar (one o thos giant ball things) will win the console war... oh yeah, and chrysis is the most awesome looking game so far.... just crashes my 1 year old rig too much for my tastes....

I am still waiting for the console version as I have given up on the graphics arms race since my pocketbook will not be able to sustain a dent against itself from upgrades to play the game.

COD4 sucks, period. At least the MP makes it not terrible, othjer then that it is the most generic, outdated, uninnovative shooter around.

kaziechameleon

In COD4's defence i think it's a great game and it scales to play very well on my four year old 6800 GT gaming rig. my new 1300 dollar rig can barely manage medium settings at 1920X1200 at thirty bucks i am picking this one up at launch, can't argue with renewed MP and better single player.

"Dead wrong on that one. COD4 used a completely brand new engine made from the ground up." if it did they did a crappy job of building a new engine, hell cod4s engine barely SUPPORTS dynamic lighting ,its physics capabilities are inferior to half life 2s, the smoke and particle effects are EXACTLY the same as the ones used in cod2, not to mention how buggered up the ass its bullet penetration is (a barret m90 wont peirce a steel drum but a 9mm handgun will go through a 3 foot concrete wall?). it has little support for larger maps and areas, the maximum number of polygons is low for a current generation engine and overall its easily the most lackluster engine on the market at the moment. and in any case: COD4 IS NOTHING, NOTHING MORE THAN COD2 IN MODERN TIMES! and on that note its one of the simplest (and not simple in a good way), lackluster, OVERRATED games to ever come along.

Same here runstalker, I played through that game and Far Cry on every difficulty level multiple times, I'm a master of the game even on Delta now, even though this just looks like more of the same, I'm ok with that because I need something new to play.

runstalker

I played like a madman the second time through Crysis on Hard: absolutely reckless, sprinting all over, grabbing dudes, tossing them at pairs of other enemies, making noise, breaking every building I could. The first time I was abusing stealth camo and playing it way too safe, hugging the walls instead of blowing them up. They promise a lot of new looks for the AI in Warhead. Good. And better vehicle controls - thank god.

crysis is such a dull game. Great benchmarking tool but game reminds me of tom clancy advance warfighter 2 when it released. Tons of fanfare. Tons of things you thought would gel together to make a awesome game but in the end it came out dull. Nice showcase of a new game engine but I think this follow up with be a dud.

"COD 4 is an updated COD 2 engine." Dead wrong on that one. COD4 used a completely brand new engine made from the ground up.

The insanely detailed graphics is the only thing you can call "innovative" in Crysis, everything else about it is something that you can do in any other FPS title...

it being better optimized is going to work out quite nice

Bowser05

Perhaps the thing is that PC games usually have a lot more freedom with how far they can push the hardware. I mean there is no 360 or PS3 that can run a game with as much technical proficiency as the top PCs out there. And a lot of time PC gamers prefer PC versions because for one you have much better control choices (you have key/mouse, and if you really want controller you can very easily plug a 360 controller in or get an adapter for a PS3 controller) and there is always a nice modding community for most of the good games which ups the life of the game by quite a bit more than a console game (why pay for DLC when you can get nice custom content on PC for free?). That being said, I'm not saying that PC is the only way to go, because I have a gaming-able PC, a 360, a DS, a PS2, a PSP and a Wii...so I understand that each platform has its strengths and weaknesses, but the PC market will never go down and PC exclusives will never dissappear either (not to mention it is easier to develop for one platform than multiple ones...especially with the major differences between the major 4 right now).

Nice, more Crysis action for $29 bucks. People can pick up an 8800 GT now for like $120, so it's not a bad time to improve your PC for games like this. Crysis Warhead will purportedly run quite well on an 8800 GT-class card, thanks to these drastic engine optimizations.

"COD 4 is an updated COD 2 engine. I'm still trying to figure out what was so innovative of Bioshock. Now show me another engine that can draw 3d objects upto 1 kilometre in the distance with full physics that is destructible and I'll believe you that Crysis was not innovative." soooo further draw distances and a physics system thats not really if honest any better than HL2... well not enough to warent the price of a macchine to run the game max graphics with a nice 60fps average.

@'pidow Why is the US getting the game after everyone else?' It's only 4 days, we usually have to wait ages (Brawl anyone?). Anyway Budapest is in Europe (Hungary) so it's only fair we get it first :D
