A recent report from German magazine GameStar claimed that Crytek, the large-scale studio perhaps best known for the Crysis games, is in the midst of financial challenges. According to the story, development of Xbox One game Ryse: Son of Rome was a "disaster" and other companies are supposedly making offers to hire away Crytek talent. But in a statement issued today today, Crytek denied these rumors.

"Regardless of what some media are reporting, mostly based on a recent article published by GameStar, the information in those reports and in the GameStar article itself are rumors which Crytek deny," the company said in a statement to Eurogamer. "We continue to focus on the development and publishing of our upcoming titles Homefront: The Revolution, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, Arena of Fate, and Warface, as well as providing ongoing support for our CryEngine and its licensees."

"We have received a lot of positive feedback during and after E3 from both gaming press and gamers, and would like to thank our loyal employees, fans, and business partners for their continuous support," the statement goes on.

Ahead of E3, a source told Eurogamer that staff at Crytek's office in Bulgaria hadn't received their salaries in two months. The site has also heard that some employees at Crytek UK have become "disgruntled" over the lack of transparency regarding Crytek's financial situation.

GameStar's report suggests that World of Tanks developer Wargaming could acquire Crytek. At the same time, however, Eurogamer has also heard that an investment in Crytek from an unspecified Chinese company has been postponed for now.
