Crysis 3 possible for Wii U

Producer Mike Read confirms mystery partnership with Mario maker, says first-person shooter sequel could land on new console.

Crysis 3 may find its way to Nintendo's first high-definition console, the Wii U. Speaking to CVG, Crytek producer Mike Read confirmed a mystery partnership with Nintendo and said a Wii U version of the new shooter is potentially in the cards.

Crysis 3 on the Wii U could happen, says Read.

"I wouldn't say there's no chance," he said. "I mean the Wii U still doesn't have any kind of release [date] attached to it at this point. Who knows what the future will bring with it. I can definitely say that we are working with Nintendo, and that's about all I can say on that front."

This news runs against the grain of what Crytek director of creative development Rasmus Hoejengaard said in May. At the time, the developer said there was "not a fat chance" that Crysis 3 would ship for the Wii U.

Crysis 3 is a first-person shooter set in 2047 New York that casts players as Prophet, a supersoldier seeking vengeance. The game is due out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in February 2013. For more on Crysis 3, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Ugh, don't waste the money on development for it. Let nintendo (Home) consoles die, they only serve as homebrew machines anyway.

TO ALL COMMENTERS: Anybody who claims that the Wii U will have graphics capability similar to a high-end PC has apparently never played games on a high-end PC.

The nVidia GTX 690 moves polygons like nothing I've ever seen, but it costs about $1,000.  (That's just the card, not the entire computer.)  You mean to tell me that Nintendo has figured out how to get that sort of performance in a small console that will likely cost about $250 to $300?  C'mon...

Again I refer you to this article:http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/batman-arkham-city-graphics-breakdown-and-performance-guide/#1

Keep in mind that this was written about a two-year-old videogame using last year's video cards.  The difference between 2012 video cards and current-gen consoles is even more stark.

PS -- Please note that I'm not dissing anybody's console.  I love console gaming.  But comparing the two from a pure technology standpoint is like comparing a 747 to an F-15.

This game is to edgy for Nintendo. It doesnt appeal to their audience of toddlers and elderly gamers.

EA says, "Stay put" and we do, EA says, "Roll over" and we do, EA says, "Play dead" and we do, EA says, "Roll over and give us all your money for a sh*tty product" and guess what...we do. Time for a change.

Just to clarify for some... Developers have stated that the WiiU can run games at the graphic level of a modern high end PC. WiiU is going to be a fantastic console, and this partnership reinforces that.

I'll take this as them saying that they have something special in the works for the console, something that the other consoles will not get. There has to be a reason for the partnership, it doesn't exist for show, so expect some good news in the future in relation to the WiiU.

I literally busted up laughing when I read the headline. My money is on this NOT happening. Mark my words, it might be a couple weeks, maybe a couple months, but soon we'll see the headline "Crysis 3 for Wii-U Sacked" or the like, there is a reason wii doesn't get any sweet games like xbox, ps3, or pc, and thats because it flat-out sucks. Much respect for nintendo, they brought us into the modern gaming era, but recently they have not been living up to their namesake.

*end of rant*

'Potentially on the cards'

Sounds niether here, nor there... Hope it does happen though.

Personally I like everything about the WiiU, except the name... They should really work on their console names.

Mystery partnership? or been paid?

Whats the point? In my experience, people who buy Wii's don't buy them to play shooters. If you want to play shooters get a PC, PS3 or Xbox.

Reading this, I keep thinking of that line from Dumb and Dumber:

Lloyd: What are my chances?

Mary: Not good.

Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?

Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.

Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

Good to see Nintendo finally gaining 3rd party support, very early on in the systems life cycle.

Okay, first and foremost, I own an Xbox 360, a low end PC (Linux, hard drive went, linux is the only thing that'll install til payday, but i usually dual boot anyuways) and a Wii....I use them ALL for gaming.......There is no damn need to hate on ANYONE.............PS3 is the most powerful, the Wii is the most wide-appealing, and the xbox has the most support from developers and the most rabid fanbase......You play what you want.......And if you say something about anothers tastes....All you are is an apple fanboy-lookalike......You think it's SOOOOOOO fucking great, and thing others have to as well....Play what you want, buy what you want, give respect to a company and product where and when it is due, and be DONE with the BS on GS......The Wii U will come out, and have it's own niche......The days of old game systems was the same, but the internet is chaeper and more assholes are online now, so nintendo power cannot filter out the idiots and this is what we get...Bakc then is the same as now: You go to school, hear about this and that , you buy it and play it, and it's not your thing......don't like graphics? Ok....Don't care if it plays like hell, as long as you have an orgasm at the realistic titties? KOOL....Just let people play their consoles and save the preference-bashing for politics and religion!!

It looks like many of of you commenting don't understand/know that the WiiU's graphical capabilities are superior to that of the 360 and PS3. Of course the system isn't out yet, but numerous quotes from a wide array of developers say as much. Nintendo-Crytek collaboration sounds good to me!

Of course Crysis 3 can run in Wii U, just like COD for WII, just using the lowest config for the graphics and the game is compatible !

ts997
ts997

they will be pushing ps3 and xbox360 as hard as they can their is no chance a Nintendo system can stand up to that demand unless the scale down the textures then it just looks crap like cod on the wii

just because it CAN run it does not mean it will look beautiful. i bet the Wii u will just look like xbox/ps3 graphics as an upgrade from the Wii

The Wii U is graphically superior to the X360 and PS3, it would have been a very bad sign if it wouldn't get a fair share of the thirdparty pie.

But I'm reluctant to consider this a good sign, more like a neutral one. Selling the same game as current-gen consoles won't make a lot of X360 and PS3 owners switch to this 'nextgen' Nintendo platform.

Nintendo needs to convince developers to utilize the superior hardware of the Wii U to make games that are too heavy for current-gen platforms, effectively getting free exclusives. In early 2006 the X360 had games like CoD2 and Oblivion that made PS2 owners switch to X360 due to lack of a PS3 (at the time).

So I wonder how succesful the Wii U will be as a core platform once the PS4 and NextBox are out. If it gained a substantial core userbase then developers will keep Wii U in mind when developing games in 2014 and beyond. If not then it might get ignored just like the original Wii. So Wii U needs more games like Zombie U, games that might convince currentgen owners to switch over. Games like Mass Effect 3 and Assassin's Creed 3 are always good to have, but it isn't a competitive advantage.
