Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge E3 2003 Preshow Report

Microsoft's online dogfighting game is coming along nicely.

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge is the long-awaited Xbox dogfighting game from Microsoft. It will feature a full-fledged story mode alongside strong offline and online multiplayer options.

Crimson Skies is set in an alternate version of the 1930s where might makes right. And that might comes in the form of gigantic flying gunships. You'll play as Nathan Zachary, the leader of a group of air pirates known as the Fortune Hunters. Along the way in the single-player mode, you'll pull off daring escapes and rescue damsels in distress.

You'll pilot 10 different planes, each of which has its own flight capabilities, such as speed, handling, and the like. Weapon loadouts also vary from plane to plane, and you'll be able to fire off bright, shiny weapons like Tesla guns, detonator cannons, gyrocopters, and remote-controlled rockets.

While the game will have a split-screen multiplayer mode, Xbox Live is the real way to play. The game will have a collection of individual and team-based modes, from basic dogfights to capture the flag. Some levels will also have spots where you can land your plane, dismount, and man a nearby turret, be it on the ground or on on top of a zeppelin or other large warship.

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge will hit stores this fall.
