Creative announced at the Consumer Electronics Show this year that it was working with world champion PC gamer Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel on a new line of cobranded Creative and Fatal1ty products specifically designed for the gaming audience. Creative gave us a sneak peek at the first product to come out of the partnership, a prototype Fatal1ty gaming mouse.

We weren't allowed to take a picture of the mouse, so here's a picture of Fatal1ty instead.

Creative worked with Fatal1ty to create the perfect mouse for his style of play. The 1600DPI optical mouse will have six programmable buttons and a scrollwheel. The mouse will also have quick-switch buttons that let you change the sensitivity between 400, 800, and 1600DPI on the fly. Since mouse weight is important to serious gamers, the Fatal1ty mouse will have interchangeable slugs that fit into the mouse to give the unit a light, medium, or heavy weight depending on user preference. There will, of course, be a "Fatal1ty" weight for the setting the champ prefers.

The compact mouse shape will be attractive to gamers looking for a mouse that isn't a huge ergonomic monster. The mouse will be wired, since wireless technology adds needless weight and input lag. The mouse currently doesn't have a name, price, or release date, but Creative will reveal more information about the Fatal1ty mouse later this summer.
