Crackdown 2 announced for 360

E3 2009: Microsoft confirms sequel to 2007's open-world actioner; promises co-op and competitive game play.

LOS ANGELES--Amongst the wealth of hardware and software announcements unveiled at this morning's Microsoft press conference, one game was confirmed with very little fanfare--a sequel to the superhero open-world game Crackdown, which first debuted on the Xbox 360 in 2007.

Few details were released about Crackdown 2, but Microsoft has confirmed that Ruffian Games will be the developers and has also promised that the game will "take multiplayer gaming to unprecedented levels for the ultimate cooperative and competitive multiplayer experience, providing you and your friends with the freedom to explore, destroy, and play as you return to restore justice and peace to Pacific City." The first game also featured co-op play throughout the entire story campaign.

At this stage, no firm release date has been set for Crackdown 2. For more from the show, check out GameSpot's complete coverage of E3 2009.

This game is somewhat irrelevant since APB is coming out, and is made by the same people. APB is going to be huge, so most of their dev team will be working on it instead of CD2. APB shares the basic theme of crackdown, minus the superhumans. With the dissapointing reception it recieved before, I doubt many people will notice the game.

Crackdown received a decent score in reviews which was weird because it was such a memorable game. I look foward to Crack2 in the hopes for stronger villains (maybe ones with superpowers of the own) and more length to storyline. Hopefully Crack2 will improve on its predecessor and show what sandbox gameplay is all about!

Quote: "I thought Crackdown was more fun than GTAIV (holds up flame shield), but hey that's just me." end quote With you there on certain aspects, playing co-op to hit up the stunts, agility orbs and hidden orbs was sooooo much more fun than GTA4's equivalents, even though I was psyched for Halo 3 beta, I think i only ended up playing about 2 rounds of it because of the awesomeness of the first game. Here's hoping we get another demo :D

I never played the first one. This one looks pretty decent, I guess.

What if we could destroy entire buildings?!? I can't wait. I thought Crackdown was more fun than GTAIV (holds up flame shield), but hey that's just me.

Crackdown is one of the most crudely underated games on the 360, it did have its flaws, but it was awesome!

IT IS ABOUT TIME! Finally, I was afraid this was not going to happen, but how could it not? Crackdown was a glorious take on the open world genre. You could feel like you did some good after playing it, rather than just killing a bunch of innocent people as a thug(Though I do love saints row 2). I cannot wait for this long overdue sequel. If they do what they say the game will be amazing. I hope they have the option to have more than one other person explore the city with you. It will be interesting to see how this ones progress.

Crackdown was a lot of fun, but near the end it started getting glitchy to being near-unplayable. Things such as invisible walls/items in my way, preventing me from moving while hoards of enemies can still shoot me, invisible building and roads. One Shai-Gen boss (the one in the globe shaped building) was simply floating about in mid air, but was protected from my attacks. The only way i beat her was by jumping up and landing on an invisible something that made me also float around randomly, and shoot from there. Then, with the final gang boss to go, I accidentally erased my game save in my system settings, so it'll be a while until i pick it up again. Aside from those problems, I enjoyed it a lot more than GTA 4, which was just a slog, something I had to finish for the sake of being able to say that I'd finished it, rather than enjoyment of the game.

sweet. Crackdown was one seriously under-rated game.... it got labelled with the Halo beta being it's selling point, but for me, Crackdown was waaaaay better than any Halo game since 2 or 3.... Can't wait to see a sequel. inFamous has me all prepared for a sandbox superhero game again...

wouldnt be hard to make a better game than the first: get rid of that stupid narrator, make it more than a jumping game, and at least TRY to write a story for it.

Would like to see the engine used to make a Judge Dredd game.

Really liked the original. It did have its problems, mainly that it wasn't fleshed out enough, and it was a bit repetitive, but I'm hoping that those things will be address in the sequel. Either way, I will be buying this one. Hopefully they'll expand on the ideas of the original, and even introduce a few new ones.

Crackdown had a lot of character but I didn't like the cartoonish feel of it but this new one their making the trailer looks pretty darn good soo I'm interested but I'm gonna wait to see how it goes before I get too hyped up for this game through...

Crackdown didn't get the praise it deserved...definitely one of my favourite titles on 360 and one of the best sandbox games to be released. I'm hoping that the storyline is a bit better this time around - can't wait!
