CPL chooses Quake 4

Latest shooter from id Software to be primary one-on-one tourney game in 2006 World Series events.

The Cyberathlete Professional League today announced that id Software's upcoming first-person shooter, Quake 4, will be its primary one-on-one competition game in its 2006 World Series events.

It's a return to the CPL's roots, as the original Quake was at the heart of the organization's first competition in October of 1997, and both Quake II and Quake III Arena have been the subject of CPL competitions in the years since.

A small Quake 4 qualifying tournament will be held at the CPL Winter Event 2005 December 14-18 in Dallas, Texas, provided the game makes it to retail shelves by then. Quake 4 is rated M for Mature, and is currently slated for an October release with a price of $49.99. A special DVD edition of the game, including Quake II and two of that game's expansion packs, will also be available for $59.99.
