Counter-Strike: GO beta applications open to survey-takers

Valve says "there are no wrong answers" to online survey, from which the company will draw participants for ongoing PC trial of new shooter.

by

Valve is beefing up its beta testing for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and all gamers need to do to be considered is answer a few questions. Valve has announced that players interested in trying out the new shooter can fill out an online survey and hope to be chosen.

There are no wrong answers, unless you leave the survey blank. Then you lose.

Writing on the game's official blog, Valve said those who take the survey will be considered for admittance into the ongoing trial period. According to Valve, "If you don't fill it out, you won't be getting a key."

Valve said over the coming months it will make selections based on the survey and admit players in waves. The developer did not reveal how it will choose participants but noted that it will bring in experienced players, new players, 1.6 players, Counter-Strike: Source Players, and users who have played neither game.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is currently in development for release on the PC, Mac, Xbox Live, and PlayStation Network, but no mention has been made concerning a beta outside of the PC.

When Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was announced last summer, Valve said the game would be out in early 2012. It isn't clear if the developer is sticking with that release window, as the game's beta was delayed to early February.

As for when the beta will end, Valve writer Chet Faliszek said in October that Valve will ship the game when the community says it's ready. "We have no mandate from anybody of when we have to ship this," he said. "So we're more than happy to just keep working on this until it's ready to ship. By the end of this, everyone will be playing the game--it will be the released game that you're just playing. Then, at some point, we'll say, 'OK we're going to release it.'"

@Draken_Domingo whatever Im not going to read your inane comment, it's not that serious, so grow up. I'm not here to argue, my initial comment was not meant to start an argument, but you butthurt emotional people always seem to get personal, just like on yahoo message boards. If you don't know how to make points without resorting to irrelevant personal crap, then you are irrelevant. Learn what a paragraph is by the way.

@PeterDuck Hmmm, you seem upset. I don't really like arguing with people of your caliber, but I guess I should tie some loose ends.I don't believe you noticed because of your raging boner for Half-Life, but Episodes 1 and 2 were short, they were great but four hours of gameplay is...just sad. Which is also why Episode 2 was bundled in Orange Box, it helped get two new IPs out with a rather short HL2 experience. Also, they've been crafting the Source engine like no tomorrow. Portal 2 was proof of it's evolution, and it's obvious they're doing this work for one single purpose...Episode 3. Oh, and to imply I'm a raging Valve fanboy...yes, I agree, I love Valve, but it's because of what they do. They helped save the PC gaming industry through Steam. They support indie developers which bring us some great games that would've otherwise gone unnoticed. And they're always trying to bring us new and better experiences, not the same old copypasta that's been going on for years thanks to Call of Duty's cancer spreading throughout. Way to act mature buddy, I believe you're the one who needs to let themselves hit puberty at the very least. Half-Life fan or not, you should realize devs have other priorities sometimes...again, you make me sick for calling yourself a fan.

I love how Valve takes their time.....and it shows in their games. More power to the developers who want perfection and can avoid sales and marketing breathing down their necks! Valve has always been in that unique position to do that.

The difference between Valve and others is they care for their community and release well solid games, not full of bugs and glitches to just money milk their fans. And im happy that they didnt make it a habit and made their games yearly based, they just work hard on their titles to make it top quality. Compare that to Ubisoft and you will know the major difference.

@Draken_Domingo way to get personal, idiot. ok, lets get personal, I can play the childish game too. Take Valve's wiener out of your mouth if you know what's good for you. Grow up. p.s. I call myself a fan of Half Life franchise, I didn't say I was a fan of all Valve games. L4D, Counter-Strike and Portal have nothing to do with the Half Life franchise (except source engine and some references). You are mixing apples and oranges.

@Draken_Domingo: I agree Valve will eventually get to a episode 3 they probably will finish CS then go to another project or start episode 3 hopefully its finished before TF3 :P

@PeterDuck So? When has Valve let us down? Well, besides L4D2. I have a lot of faith in Valve, they bring out quality games each and every time they do a release, and the post launch and community support is top notch. Yeah, it sucks waiting for Episode 3, but if you were a true fan of Valve, you'd take the stick out of your ass and wait. I've been waiting for a game like CSGO for a while. As @scout7 has pointed out, CS fans have been waiting a lot longer for a new CS game then Episode 3...so please, move aside if you're not going to show Valve some appreciation and wait in your corner...and you call yourself a fan

@PeterDuck I've been waiting for CS or DOD to add new weapons a lot longer than you have for HL 3. CS fans have been waiting since 2003.

@Draken_Domingo I have a right to be butthurt like the other hundreds of thousands and millions of fans. Because we've been waiting for Half Life 2 Ep. 3/ Half Life 3 since 2007.

Thanks for all these miscellaneous games, Valve (left 4 dead, Portal, Counter strike). Thanks for wasting time on all those games when you could have completed Half Life 4 by now.

CS is pretty much the only fps I have ever been able to get into long-term and just reading this makes me feel better about the game. Valve treats their community right so CS:GO can have my dough.

This is how it should be. Sure it will be delayed but at least we can have faith that it will be a finished, polished and not rushed product. Im sick of rushed releases and many patches afterwards. Release when its ready. If its not overdone, thats the way to go.
