Some Xbox 360 owners turned on their systems this week to find a surprising image (above) informing them that if they buy an Xbox One this month, they'll get a special $75 credit. As it turns out, this is part of a limited-time offer for select gamers in the US, Canada, and UK.

"This short-term promotion is offered to select Xbox fans in the US, Canada and the UK," a Microsoft spokesperson told GameSpot. "We are always looking for opportunities to bring promotions like this to our customers."

According to the image--obtained by NeoGAF forum user BeforeU--the promotional credit is going out to some of Microsoft's "very best customers." It's unclear how Microsoft is choosing people for the offer, but we have to think having an active Xbox Live subscription for an extended period would improve your standing in Microsoft's eyes.

If you were one of the lucky ones who received the offer, you need to buy an Xbox One (standard or Kinect bundle) and activate it by July 31 to receive the credit. You will then receive a code for a $75 credit through your console, which you must redeem it by October 15, 2014 and spend by a year later.

With a $75 credit, you could buy any one of the many, many games coming to Xbox One this year, including first-party games like Sunset Overdrive or Halo: The Master Chief Collection, or multiplatform titles like Assassin's Creed Unity or Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
