Conker's Bad Fur Day Preview

Burned out on cute platform games? From the looks of Conker's Bad Fur Day, maybe Rare is getting a bit burned out on them too. So the company has taken Conker, the happy squirrel who was supposed to appear in yet another cutesy platformer, and thrust him into a decidedly violent, adult, M-rated world.

The short video clip that Nintendo showed at its recent Perfect Dark event gave the collected press a glimpse of the game's sense of humor. The opening depicts Conker waking up in the middle of a boat, surrounded by fuzzy animals who happen to be decked out in their best Saving Private Ryan getups. To make a long story short, the door to the craft drops, and Conker's entire platoon gets smoked. Other short bits showed characters smoking cigarettes, a dinosaur-looking creature ripping a furry animal in half, a door that helpfully told Conker to "f-k off," and sexual innuendos such as a woman proclaiming, "He's got a bigger bone than you."

How the game will actually play remains to be seen, though it's a pretty safe bet that it will probably follow the example set by Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. Conker's Bad Fur Day is scheduled to release in the fourth quarter of this year.

The screenshots we have are from the old, cutesy version.
