Team social recaps the week and wishes you all have a great holiday.

Game of the Year

The cat is finally out of the back. The overall GameSpot pick for Game of the Year 2013 is the Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

A Link Between Worlds is a stunning masterpiece that's so consistently rewarding, so unexpected, and so gosh darn fun that even thinking of it makes us giddy all over again. -Tom McShea

Many editors have called this game a masterpiece. This game is fantastic and should be tried out by everyone. After hearing about this game for weeks, I am buying my own copy this weekend. You should too. Congratulations, Nintendo.

GameSpot Original Content/Shows

This has probably been one of the busiest seasons for the GameSpot team. Since the mid November, our team has been working none stop to bring you new and original shows. A couple of these new Shows include: Ask the Experts, Player VS Gamer, and The Gist.

Ask the Experts is a collaboration with our sister site CNET to bring you answers to all of your next generation console questions.

Player VS Gamer takes pro-athletes and puts them head-to-head with their teammates and pro-gamers to battle it out on the Xbox One. Oh and the host is none other than Ms. Jessica Chobot.

The Gist features our very own Jess McDonell who gives you 5 things to think about in the gaming community.

I would love to see what you thought was a good game. Madden? COD? GTA?

Ryan, considering it lived up to its hype, its NOT overrated at all. yknow, I know some grown ass women who have cried at the game because it was so realistic and emotional

Ryan Gibbons How could I be part of a fanbase if the game didn't exist before it came out and was not a sequel to anything. It was really fun and kept me on the edge of my seat. That's what I look for in a game.

When I saw the "community news update", I was hoping that it'd be an article apologizing for the website redesign and a promise to restore it to the old style. It's so f**king slow, google chrome mosaic mosaic everywhere :-(

great, i have to buy a whole console just to play 1 game.. nintendo, bring Zelda to STEAM please, so we can ALL enjoy the game of the year.

I know , i know, never going to happen. But still, i really dont want to buy a WHOLE console just to play 1 game. Be like buying a whole DVD player to just to watch 1 movie.

Umm why didn't pokemon x and y get this?

Typical response from their fanbase. I have played it and didn't see anything special about it. It does nothing considerably better than any other third person action game released this generation. The story is good but hardly original. Go read On the Beach.

The Last of Us is the most overrated game of the generation.

It makes me smile a little every time someone gets pissed that zelda won because it totally deserves it

Mine was Bioshock Infinite, love the art style and story, gameplay was also fun but the game was never challenging enough, even on 1999 mode (well, some parts were tough, but overall not that bad).  Still, I love the world they created and it appealed to me more than the original did (though, that's still a really great game).

This year had a lot of really awesome games and while I have not played A Link Between Worlds, it looks like a pretty good choice and it's nice to see a Nintendo exclusive get GOTY here.  I was expecting one of the big hyped games like The Last of Us or GTA V, good to see their flaws were recognized and held them back from GOTY.  Not bad games, but there were things I had issue with, just like I really enjoyed Beyond: Two Souls, but the last two levels got really cliche and they're not so good at creating believable relationships, but the main character's story was really engaging most of the time.

(Also, thanks for the heads up on the contest)

If you say The Last of Us sucks then you obviously haven't played it...

Mine was GTA5. But i do love Zelda and look forward to playing it. I liked TLOU as well, but it wasn't the godsend it was made out to be, imo

Not sure if you're trolling, but if you're not I actually agree, the story wasn't anything special, gameplay was solid but nothing great, and I'm also a bit biased since zombies are kind of boring, though I did enjoy the parts against human enemies, their AI was pretty good most of the time.  Not an awful game, but not GOTY.

@blueboxdoctor the enemies weren't really zombies, it was a fungi virus. interesting because it happens to insects in real life. The story between the characters was amazing but the game play was unoriginal and to much of it at times.
