Community News Update: Monday 11/4

We've got console giveaways, COD: Ghosts review in the works, and more in todays GameSpot Community News Update.

Time for another Community News Update, we've got a lot to cover so let us get started, shall we?

A look back

Last week starting Thursday, GameSpot kicked off its Extra Life Mega Stream. Staff from all over the globe chimed in and did their part to help us reach our goal of $20,000 for the Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland. If you haven't yet shown some love you can still check out our donations page. Remember everyone, #ForTheChildren!

On Monday, we gathered a laundry list of bugs and various pieces of feedback. As with many new sites there have been some obvious growing pains but we're working hard on fixing as many as we can as quickly as possible. As always – If you see something, say something! We have a Bug and Feedback report forum for that very thing and the more people who actively make strides to report errors as they cross their path the better equipped we'll be to handle them.

What to look forward to

Call of Duty: Ghosts releases later this week and our review should be dropping in the twilight hours of the site so be sure to keep an eye out for it if you're interested in what makes this latest addition to the franchise the game for you (you know, if you're into those type of games).

Later this week, we will be having a GameSpot Now Playing with host Peter Brown featuring Resogun – the "intense fast-paced shoot em' up developed exclusively for the PlayStation 4."

This weekend is BlizzCon, boy doesn't time sure fly it seems like only a year ago many Blizzard Bro's were lamenting over the fact that there would be no convention for them in 2012. But this year it appears that they are back with a bigger focus and so of course GameSpot will be there to make note of the action. Follow @PCBrown for updates this weekend from the BlizzCon floor. To celebrate, we also have a giveaway in the work thanks to the folks over at J!NX, so make sure you are following us on Twitter and Facebook so that you can enter to win some free booty!

Community Spotlight

This week's community spotlight shines on Ivory_Soul, who has written over 600 reviews for GameSpot since he joined back in 2004. Some of his recent reviews include GTAV, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, and Killer is Dead.

Contest Reminder

This weekend, GameSpot launched its biggest Facebook giveaway to date. Sorry but it is US only. We're giving away next-gen consoles! GameSpotters who enter will have a chance to win the new Xbox One or a PlayStation 4 (your choice) and if that wasn't enough, the Grand Prize winner will also be getting their choice of five of the top new releases as well as a subscription to the online service of their choice. To enter to win our sweepstakes is simple, just follow this link, which will take you directly to our Facebook app. Enter the required data and voila, you're in. May the best fan win!

GOOD LUCK!

Xbox Kinect... PlayStation EYE... You're living in a time machine; the Kinect doesn't need to be on, or plugged in. It's just without it, you don't reap all the benefits. Enjoy Knack.

I'm from the UK. I visit a gaming website that is worldwide, having branches in at least 3 countries. I watched GSNews which is hosted by an Australian (in Australia). I'm told about this competition which is "US only"???????

I thought this was the 21st Century? Why is America still acting like isolationists? This is so archaic and backwards thinking. It's pathetic.

To those complaining that the giveaway is US only - they're giving away region specific consoles as part of a competition held by a US based website. It's impossible to offer consoles that don't even work on other continents to those people. What would be the point of holding the contest at all?

Also on the bug front - It's been a month since the new site launched with next to zero progress on bugs relating to stacks and game updates which users have reported in abundance. I think you have enough feedback to make the appropriate changes now... Speed it up please, GS.

Don't know about the Xbox One, but the PS4 is region-free. The only thing that would make a difference is which power cable comes with the console. There are simple ways around that: converters can be easily bought. Cheaply too. Same with power cables. People would be more than willing to buy these things if they are getting a FREE console.
