Battlefront.com has announced that Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin, its upcoming follow-up to the acclaimed 3D World War II combat simulation Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord, will be released on the PC and Macintosh on September 20, 2002. The game focuses on the eastern front from 1941 to 1945, and it lets players control historically accurate forces and equipment from seven different nations: Germany, the Soviet Union, Finland, Italy, Romania, Hungary, and Poland.

The game begins with the German invasion of Russia in 1941 and continues through the 1945 storming of Berlin. It features high-resolution 3D graphics, dynamic stereo sound effects, and a hybrid turn-based and real-time combat system. The game features more than 300 different tanks and vehicles and more than 600 other types of units in 50 different battle scenarios and 10 operations. For added realism, the game includes weather effects, air strikes, and nighttime combat. Battles will take place on large maps of up to 27 square kilometers in size.

Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin is in development at Big Time Software and will be available from the official Battlefront.com Web site and through a distribution partnership with CDV Software. For more information, take a look at our interview with the developer.
