Shrapnel Games has announced that Combat Command 2: Desert Rats has gone gold. The game is the next in the Combat Command strategy wargame series, and it focuses on tactical desert warfare during World War II. Players can assume the role of Patton or Rommel and take part in a wide range of battles ranging from armored conflicts in Libya to infantry combat in the hills of Tunisia.

The game features 17 complete scenarios, including Sidi Rezegh, Kasserine Pass, El Guettar, Mareth Line, Tebourba Gap, Oran (the American amphibious invasion of French-held Algeria), Fondouk, Medenine, Wadi Akarit, and Ruweisat Ridge. In addition, players can create custom scenarios using the game's scenario editor. Desert Rats also features a number of improvements on the previous game, including a new zoomable jump map that supports battle maps up to 100 hexes square, enhanced night attack capability, enhanced armor vs. infantry strength, mine-clearing flail tanks, and a complete multiplayer mode that supports Internet play as well as same-machine play and play-by-email.

Combat Command 2: Desert Rats was developed by Boku Strategy Games, and it is scheduled for release in early July. For more information, visit the official Shrapnel Games Web site.
