Koei today announced that Colosseum: Road to Freedom is now available in retail stores for the PlayStation 2. The game was developed by Ertain and Goshow and was previously released in Japan.

In the game, players will hack and slash their way from slave to free man. They will have a variety of fighting styles at their disposal, and they'll have special moves based on their weapon sets. Gamers can opt for taking a shield into battle for some defense, or they can dual-wield weapons for double the carnage.

A variety of battle types will challenge players. Gamers may be matched up with teammates so they can duke it out with a squad of opponents, or they can have the daunting task of taking on several combatants in a free-for-all. There will also be head-to-head battles with famous gladiators, as well as with vicious beasts, such as tigers or bulls.

Ertain recently announced that an upgraded version of the game, titled Colosseum: Road to Freedom Remix, is in the works and will be released in Japan this September.

Colosseum: Road to Freedom is rated M for Mature and sells for $39.99.
