Codemasters has today released new information on the multiplayer options that will be featured in the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of Colin McRae Rally 04. The game, which is currently in development at Codemasters' internal studio, will feature more than 20 rally cars, eight gameplay modes, and eight international rally locations.

It's been revealed today that the game's championship, rally, and stage modes of play will all allow multiple players to compete against each other for different car manufacturers or to race cooperatively for the same team. Split-screen play for two players on the PS2 or four players on the Xbox will be supported, with an option for up to four players to drive alternately available on both systems.

In addition to the multiplayer options announced today, the Xbox version of Colin McRae Rally 04 will feature Xbox Live support. Players won't actually be able to race against each other directly, but Live leagues for every stage in the game will allow players to compare their best times with those of other players and a number of the game's developers at launch.

Colin McRae Rally 04 is currently scheduled for release in Europe in September and in North America in November. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the PS2 and Xbox versions of the game.
