First, there was the United States Patent and Trademark Office filing. Then, there was the Entertainment Software Rating Board stamping. And now, Activision has finally made it official--Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits is coming to the Nintendo DS, courtesy of Vicarious Visions.

The third installment in Activision's portable Guitar Hero series, Modern Hits will offer 25 new songs and five all-new rock venues. Adding a new wrinkle to the series, Activision noted that players will be able to follow a nonlinear progression path through the game. Modern Hits also introduces fan requests, which unlock new challenges as portable rockers build their followings.

As with the best-selling original Guitar Hero On Tour and its follow-up, Decades, Modern Hits will make use of the Guitar Hero Guitar Grip peripheral. The add-on plugs into the DS's Game Boy Advance slot, which has been removed from the redesigned DSi, due out April 5. Activision had not responded to requests for comment as to whether Modern Hits will be compatible with Nintendo's new handheld.

Modern Hits will also make use of the DS's Wi-Fi functionality, allowing gamers with previous editions of On Tour to share songs locally in multiplayer mode. The publisher has not yet officially revealed a launch window for the game.

Wolfmother - "Dimension"
