Square's next title, Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon, heads for shelves in Japan has one major change from classic RPGs - you'll never need a menu to fight.

Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon landed in stores today. It has Legend of Zelda-style fighting and familiar faces from the Final Fantasy series (chocabo included). With magic spells, potions, dungeons, and trap door, Chocobo feels like a classic RPG; however, players can attack opponents (from squirrels to bunnies) without pulling down a menu. The menu is necessary for casting spells, of course, but not for basic attacks, as in Zelda and other action/RPG games. A number of items and equipment can be picked up, ranging from saddles to healing potions.

With the Chocobo comes a demo disc with demos of future Square products such as Parasite Eve, Sokaigi, Front Mission Alternative, Bushido Blade 2, and a playable demo of Xenogears. The Parasite Eve cinematic thrusts you into a world where mitochondria is wrecking havoc on the world, resulting in opera patrons bursting into flames and jet pilots - sent in to help with the chaos - spontaneously combusting. Interestingly enough, all the events in the game take place currently, December 24, 1997.
