Child of Light coming to next-gen consoles in 2014

Ubisoft's watercolour adventure will also make its way to current-gen consoles and PC.

by

Ubisoft has confirmed that watercolour adventure Child of Light will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U in 2014.

Players will take the role of Aurora, who must restore the kingdom of Lemuria by recapturing three sources of light and defeating an evil Queen.

The game will feature an active time battle system, with Aurora joined in combat by firefly ally Igniculus. Another player can also play as Igniculus.

Game director Patrick Plourde, who previously directed Far Cry 3, unveiled the game at GDC Europe 2013 in August.

Child of Light is powered by the UbiArt Framework, the same engine behind Rayman Legends.

This looks absolutely fantastic. Love the art style.

Now, I truly hope this gets a physical release. I somehow doubt it, seeing I have only seen this listed as DLC.

But having a physical copy of this will make this collector (and many others) very happy.

Ubisoft one of the handful of developers still trying to push the boat out. Looks great.

gameplay looks beautiful, but in-game portraits are ugly as hell.

I just can't figure Ubisoft out. On one hand they constantly run franchises into the ground and openly admit to only making something if it can be turned into a cash cow.

Yet on the other they are the only AAA company actually trying to innovate like with Zombi U, The fighter within and now this.

EA and Activision should take notes: instead of claiming that you like innovation and do spend some time creating new IPs, just do it! Like Ubisoft is doing.

Among the big publishers, these Ubisoft guys are certainly the ones catching my attention.

Arty visuals? Platforming? Female protagonist that is also a child?

I'm a bit torn on the art style - I genuinely can't figure whether I like it or not. Good to see a large publisher trying something so different though, so I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this.

And people have the nerve to criticize the art work of Wind Waker.

Pathetic!

I'm right there with ya. As a collector it pains me to see such unique games released as digital only. We can only hope that if it's successful enough it will get a physical release down the road.

@Mayleene 'The nerve'? I guess you slept through the part where they explained art is subjective. I didn't really like the still shots of Wind Waker, but the thing really came to life and grew on me as I played it. Animated, it's charming in a way that a photo can't really capture.

It's the same sort of thing that has me torn on this project, albeit in reverse. The stills look great but some of the animations (particularly the enemies) in the new trailer are reminiscent of clunky flash games. To be fair, they did spend a lot of time animating her hair lol.
