Child of Eden due on PS3 Sept. 20

Ubisoft confirms Q Entertainment's latest psychedelic shooter will arrive for Sony's console later this year.

by

Child of Eden garnered a solid critical reception upon its release for the Xbox 360 last month, but its sales performance left something to be wanted. Q Entertainment's psychedelic shooter sold just 34,000 copies during its debut month. However, Child of Eden will have a second chance when it arrives for the PlayStation 3.

Child of Eden tries again in September.

Today, Ubisoft announced that the game's PS3 release will come on September 20 in North America and September 23 in Europe. Of note, whereas the Xbox 360 edition of the game integrated with Microsoft's Kinect add-on, the PS3 version will feature Move-enabled motion-controller support.

Developed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment, Child of Eden is largely in keeping with the developer's previous work. The game takes its cues in large part from Mizuguchi's acclaimed rhythm shooter Rez, and it features the same style of music-enhanced shooter gameplay with psychedelic visuals.

It also bears a storyline: Gamers will attempt to rescue the embattled Project Lumi, which is an effort to "reproduce a human personality inside Eden, the archive of all human memories." A virus has invaded the program, however, and players must defeat it before all hope is lost.

The game's visual style approximates a virtual reality universe and is heavily reliant on geometric shapes in motion against an ever-shifting background. The shapes join to take on aspects of the virus, evolving from tiny single-block creatures into giant wormlike monstrosities.

You've gotta love how it looks, but it's too close to Ico's collection which i cant wait for, so i cant see myself buying this game.

I bought Rez originally the day it came out on PS2. I LOVE Rez, but I feel kinda shafted. 360 not only got this game 1st, but also received HD Rez. Am I crazy to think this is shunning the very people (Playstation users) who supported and bought your game over the years? I will still buy CoE, but with the release now coming in the amazingly crowded month of September, I will wait until the price drops, as it did on the 360. I would have bought it day one, but not any more. Also I would like to point out that I understand that Rez was originally a Dreamcast game, but that was never released in the US.

Because it was "Kinect exclusive?" My high score with an Xbox controller says hello.

I'm pretty tired of Ubisoft shafting PS3 players at this point. If you want to dryhump the Xbox for whatever reason, give us a lower price point when you decide we deserve to play, too.

@kiramasaki - you obviously don't have taste in good music where it's credited. I understand it's not your cup of tea but not everyone plays GTA's and Halo's.

I really dont understand the hype about this game. Its basically something along the lines of Rez, which isnt that good in the first place, an incoherent shooter that looks like it was made by stoners, and its like a few hours long. Diablo I/II, Halo Combat Evolved, Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto III, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Zelda these are the types of games that deserve praise as something note worthy and impressive; not some coma inducing acid trip.

Toooo close to Team Ico collection release date but i'll still buy it regardless if PS3 gets leftovers lol.

I think I'll import this. The reason it died was it was Kinect exclusive, with kinect being a broken device that many people bought and then regretted purchasing. Like that angry reviewer who I like on the hotspot. I forget his name. But why is this not a digital download game?

You must buy. If you're in Europe, where the game is supposed to retail for 20 euro, you have no excuse. Seriously, get this game.

The strange thing is this game was marketed where I am... so I'm not sure what good this will do sadly. I mean it's great the have more unique titles these days to.
