Here's the letter that Mindscape will soon be sending to users of its online Chessmaster Live service. MPlayer will soon become the new master (and keeper) of the online component of Mindscape's popular Chessmaster 5500 title.

"Dear _____,

Just wanted to give you a heads-up on some changes taking place with Chessmaster Live, the online component of our Chessmaster CD-ROM series. After a thorough review of online features, member feedback, and general progression of the online gaming industry, we are adopting a neworganizational model for Chessmaster Live. We are in final discussions with MPlayer to become the new "home" for Chessmaster Live. It is expected that the site will be out of publication for a short time, starting March 16, as negotiations are finalized. The new version of Chessmaster Live will continue to offer free online play andrated games.

For additional information, visit the Chessmaster Web site at www.chessmaster.com."

MPlayer chose not to comment on the acquisition when contacted.
