Check Out PS4 Exclusive Bloodborne's Full Gameplay Demo Video

Sony releases more than six minutes of beautiful, gruesome Bloodborne footage.

Last week, we got our first glimpse of gameplay from upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Bloodborne. Today, Sony released another video of the new game from Dark Souls developer From Software, this one containing more than six minutes of gameplay from the Gamescom demo on display last week.

The video skips around a little, but provides a sense of what the moment-to-moment gameplay is like. We see a great deal of combat--which is particularly bloody, with the player becoming covered in blood during one encounter--some of which happens with a friendly NPC doing battle at the player's side.

Sony notes that the video shows off the saw cleaver and heavy axe weapons, "both of which transform and can be wielded in short and long forms." We also get a look at the Regain system, which restores your health when you stay aggressive and counter enemy attacks.

Bloodborne does not yet have an exact release date; Sony has only said it's coming in "early 2015" for PS4.

When he does those "finisher" type moves, it doesn't look like he has a weapon in his hand... is he reaching in barehanded and ripping internal organs out?

I cannot wait for this, looks incredible.

this looks... easy. The regain system looks like this will make this game way too simple once you understand the battle mechanics which I'm sure many Souls players will get in seconds. I can't help but think by removing shields they have compromised by giving low damage attacks to enemies and a low enemy hp.

hmm... starting to look like an action rpg...

It seems to be the retarded love child of every low budget 3rd persons action adventure, born on a ouija board on Halloween. It will end near a glowing chasm of death. It is bilge. The AI is poor, the collision detection is off. The "Finishers" are so badly scripted that i wish i had my old copy of Tenchu to see how its really done. looks pretty.

That's some neat art design (love the boss), i hope it is not as overhyped as the previous ones, since in my opinion most people are confusing poor gameplay mechanics with "difficulty".

It looks great graphically, and it reminds me of Nightmare Creatures, but the running animation.. it's very stiff and "non-dynamic." No character adjustment when changing directions, no stepping up on higher ground. It may seem like a trivial complaint, but great animation in modern games is just as important as anything else. To me, at least. And I worry that the core gameplay might get old. But, I've only seen snippets of gameplay, so hopefully I'm wrong.

Finally a promising looking console game, that is not exclusive to Nintendo.

Lets put the Dark Souls wannabe aside.. the game looks beautiful. But the gameplay looks really bad. He is doing the same things over and over. Only the boss looked like it could be a challenge for some players...

@josh_maunder People who regularly play the Souls games know that they aren't "difficult" to begin with. They only require memory, timing and patience to easily master.

Souls to me has never been about crushing difficulty, its been about smart game-play and strategic approaches to combat. That's why I love doing those types of runs like SL1 and bow only. There are plenty of ways to artificially create difficulty in a game if you want to be 'that guy' that calls games like this baby games.

Way to judge a game that won't be out for quite some time. Why not pull your head out of your ass and wait to see if you actually like it?

@kingcrimson24

But this isn't a Souls Game. It not connected to the Souls Series.

Sure it's familiar because of who the creator is.

@Xtremeelectro dude....more often than not all it takes is a few tweaks to existing rules to totally transform a game experience and how its played. Just look at the transition from Demon's Souls to Dark Souls.

And its miyazaki here. The guy simply knows how to suck you into a game. That Clock Tower in the distance, just gives of Sen's Fortress Vibes!!! Bloodborne is gonna be awesome.

Miyazaki-san....why no PC????????WHYYYYYYYYYYY??????????????????????

@Vienreich Sony had a big involvement in this. Aaaand they helped fund and create Demon's Souls. What are you barking on about.

@Vienreich Traitors? XD You are aware that the first Souls game was PS3 Exclusive and the franchise wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for Sony ?

coulterjames72

It is very similar though. The combat mechanics, animation and movement, aesthetic, and even the way the character picks up items are all practically the same, minus a few gameplay tweaks (like the no-shield thing). It is true though, this stands apart from the souls games

Xtremeelectro
Xtremeelectro

@Gojomez @Xtremeelectro Well I doubt there is anything more to the gameplay... only different scenarios or weapons. Just saying, I dont know why people are so excited. It barely shows anything unique and new (besides the graphics).

@coulterjames72 This is from the Author of the Article. And Miyazaki statements.

Bloodborne is a new experience as a whole.
And Inspired by Demon Souls. Same level of Difficulty as Demon Souls. It will still have all the Hallmarks of what From is know by.

The game is being made by Demon’s Souls’ director Hidetaka Miyazaki so it is bound to have a touch of resemblance. However, he said that the gameplay mechanics, characters and everything that comes with them is brand new. It is a totally new experience.  And the creator states also you can't play Bloodborne the same way as Demon Souls.

My Input.
If you can't approach play Bloodborne the same way as Demon Souls. You wont be able to approach play it the same way as Dark Souls either. It's not a Souls game or part of the series. But familiar because who the creator is. The combat mechanics is totally different as well as the creativity setting. New experience new IP. The Atmosphere is heading towards. Tower Of Latria I believe.

And I will say this, it's core game format, is Inspired by Demon Souls. And the shortcuts etc from Dark. But still a new experience new IP as a whole.

BloodBorne Combat. This will make you think more.  Approach combat in a strategic way.

And punish those that button mash.  Hack and Slash this is not like a DMC.

This new system allows players to regain health if they strike an enemy right after taking damage. The amount of health you can recover will be shown in yellow in your health gauge and will quickly drain over time. So if you want that health back you'd best strike fast.

As such, the motivation to mash will be stronger than ever, but you'll have to think carefully about when it's actually a good time to give in to that urge. After all, spamming attacks will leave you exposed, so you can't just flail around indiscriminately.  Just sharing and my thought's over all :)

@Xtremeelectro

You can only understand if you had played Dark Souls or Demons Souls. Fans know what to expect from the game.

coulterjames72

@strrckshn fair enough.  I was simply stating observations, but i respect that you actually researched something before commenting on it, and corrected me.  Though I am aware of Miyazaki's previous work, as well as the fact that this is not like the Souls games.  I was just noting the things I thought I recognized, like the way items are collected, etc.  I haven't played it at any events or anything, so I don't know how the gameplay will actually be, but some fundamentals of the Souls games look to have been included here.  I do like the more aggressive but strategic style of combat that is being used, and I think the environments, setting, enemies, and atmosphere look awesome.  I am honestly just excited to see a new IP by From Software, even though I will probably never be able to play it

coulterjames72
coulterjames72

You mean "there are games, and then there are Souls games." Sony may have made it possible, but it was From Software that made the games
