UK-based Slitherine Strategies and Sweden-based Paradox Entertainment have today announced that they're cooperatively developing a sequel to the strategy game Legion , named Chariots of War. The game is set around 4,000 years ago at a time when mighty empires were warring over resources including water and farmland, and in it players will assume control of one of 58 different nations on a campaign map that spans the whole of the Middle East. The main campaign map will include no fewer than 164 cities and around 80 minor settlements. Thankfully, smaller campaigns will be included for players who prefer to play shorter games.

There will be nine different resources in the game, many of which will be available only in certain areas of the map, making trading with other nations a necessity rather than an option. In addition to assembling a mighty army, players will need to concern themselves with the happiness and welfare of their followers by ensuring that cities aren't overpopulated, that there's enough food for everybody, and that their demands for temples and entertainment our met.

"We're very excited about the potential for Chariots of War," said Iain McNeil, director at Slitherine Strategies. "It takes everything that the gamers loved in Legion to the next level and adds some dramatic new features such as trade, technology, and scripted events."

No release date for Chariots of War has been announced at this time, but today's press release does state that the game has already been signed for the North American market. We'll bring you more news on Chariots of War as soon as it becomes available.
